Hi peeps,

I need to call upon you guys for an honest opinion.

I want to buy a Dreambox 800 (a proper one not a clone) but all I read about on the internet is that they get too hot and they crash alot.

Are they really that bad ?

I have a DM600 which to be honest apart from moments when it doesn't drive my motor properly it's been fine.

I've looked at the alternatives to a DM800 (I mean a linux HD boxes) and nothing seems to have anything like the support that the DM800 has. This puts me off plunging for something like a Lyngbox lb-1 which I like the look of very much.

I would like a DM8000 but the price is very silly so that a no go.

Could any of you experts maybe give me some expert advice ? :o)

Many Thanks

I have many dreamboxes: 600, 7025 and 800.
The 800 is a little less stable than the other, but this is hardly surprising as it is very new still in terms of image development. However, it has all the features, and then some, of the other dreamboxes. Crashes a lot: Well it crashes occasionally, mostly, it seems, when it has to do something on the hard disk. This could also be a function of which hard disk is installed. Some hard disks are very slow to come out of standby mode, and this causes problems for some devices (like the Synology NAS) and could likely cause a problem here as well.
I love the 800 as much as I do the 600, which I prefer over the 7025. I would like to get a 8000, but as you say the price is silly and reading the forums, it seems a lot less stable than the 800.
The 800 runs hot, but then so does the 600; there is not a big difference. Just give it a well ventilated place, like the 600 and that is fine. I have a hard disk internal and it seems to behave OK for about 6 months now.

I have both the 800 and the 8000... The 800 gets hot (though not on stand-by Mode) but I would not use the word crashes a Lot it doesn't. In summer when the weather in this Part of the World (Malta) is really hot I just put a small Fan on it and I don't have any problems (one could even instal a Laptop fan inside.) Now as regards the 8000 I have to say that it is as stable as the 800 (this is my opinion from my own experience of the Box) and it does get hot, perhaps even more, having an internal Hdd and a DVD unit, but since its much bigger, the heat dissipates more quickly, but these boxes are really great with an exceptional Picture and Audio quality which in my opinion are unsurpassed
