Good afternoon from a sunny Mullion Cove : )

Are any of you gentlemen using one of these or a simlar model ?

Yours truly has been thinking of asking Father Christmas for one of these so that we can use the 4k resolution on our TV.

Apart from a hard drive that came with the set we have no 4k content.

From the esteemed members there are sats out there now with 4k content.

It appears that Technomate have still to launch one or I would have made a purchase, there being a lot of downloads available for Technomate.

God Bless Spiff

Thank you for the links I will have a read.

This is the eBay advert I copied from, the receiver has 4k on the front plus I translated the spec and that confirmed it.

Dreambox DM7080 HD 2x DVB-S2 2x DVB-C/T Tuner Linux Combo Receiver SOFORT LIEFER 4044845708017 | eBay

A lot of equipment sold now uses very similar model numbers, making it difficult to be sure what you are looking at.

Wonderful.
I think the UNO is limited can't have both DVB-S2 and DVB-C/T/T2 which is what Spiff wants.
The ULTIMO is too expensive for me ATM. The SOLO 4K has been around for a while so perhaps it has some support already.

With the same model number ?

Mutant official website doesn't claim it is Dreambox model.

Funny thing is that they don't have a manual there.

The seller on eBay is misleading with the title.
I believe the Mutant is indeed 4K if this is what you want, but I would recommend to wait until you know exactly what you will get

I require just a satellite tuner in the unit as it is to add 4k, I believe there is no 4k on terrestrial TV as of yet.

In that case, take a look at the UNO 4k
It is still a limited receiver compared to the SOLO 4k and the ULTIMO 4k
Please note that the tuner is FBC (Full Band Capture) which makes it possible to watch more than one transponder while recording a channel on a different TP.

The mutant is a good set top box, but hold on, the tuners are plug and play and atm it wont decode s2x, there supposed to be/have brought out a tuner for s2x, but ive yet to find one,

There's another box coming out that does s2x will post link when I find it, whatever you buy make sure it will decode S2x, lots of programmes will be broadcast in S2x in the near future ;)

Thanks for mentioning the S2X I learnt something new today.
I am interested in satellite receivers with DBV-S2 FBC tuner and till now I have seen only VU+ and Gigablue offering it.
Are there any other manufacturers?

I don't think Technicolor do retail boxes - but they are one of the largest manufacturers for operators and others.
They bought the STB part of Cisco last year, consolidating their footprint.
We buy most of our IPTV boxes from them.

I think you will struggle to find this as a retail item. :)

You can buy them st1, looked into it before Germany I think was the place I found them, yes they do most companies Bein etc

The specs says that the SoC is a Broadcom 7251s, and that definitely supports UHD.
(This goes for the Octagon as well)

So it does 4K (more pixels), but the HDR support is limited to HDR10 (better pixels), and, according to BCM, HLG.
However, I have yet to see HLG content play on a 7251s or 7252s. HLG is what is being promoted by the BBC.

Most of the stuff that's transmitted on Eutelsat and Astra are non-HDR (at least was when I cheked in September), so you should be fine.
HDR10 works great with Blu-ray content, as this is what most studios support, and is present in the BCM UHD chipsets, so there are already millions and millions out there.

Even the NetFlix 4K is so far just that, 4K. They have announced HDR, but it's so far very limited.
And of course - there's the bitrate issue. Proper UHD (4K, HDR, extended Gamut, UHD audio) is trending towards 35Mb/s.
For streaming services, this precludes a good portion of customers.
For SAT operators it means you could have had revenue from 5-6 HD channels instead.

And there's still many standards and lots of incompatibilities between content, STB and TV, so don't expect out-of-box operation with anything off the air.

I guess what I am trying to say is: Do experiment and see what is out there, but don't expect the equipment to be future-proof...

Difficult to say without having one.
One thing may be the HW (Amlogic etc), but even more important is the software.
Even though it says Android as OS, this could mean anything from streamlined, smooth sailing to bitchy, buggy no-frills implementation.
As this has no open-iamge support, it is difficult to say how well this would suit an enthusiasts need...

(unless someone can find a revealing review on the web - and not written by the importer themselves :) )
