Hi,

I am new top the Dreambox world and need assistance. I have conencted a KU Band LMB and the dreambox is picking up the signal with flying colours! The only issue is with the network. In the communications setup it says issue with network. When i click on "test" the IP and the second option (forgot the name) come up with red dots while the other 2 are green. The issue with the IP is as follows - in Africa apparently for such viewing I need a public IP - i am currently waiting for my service provider to send me a public one. The DCHP setting is ticked but still no luck.

Do you think I am doing something wrong?

Feedback will be great!

What are you trying to do? Networking can be a royal pain in the backside and there are two areas to the networking problems.

1) Internal to your house - trying to communicate with the dreambox, streaming video across your lan etc.

2) External to your house - anything to do with communication across the internet.

If you go to start, type cmd and then enter ipconfig, it will tell you which ip address to enter as your gateway and the subnet mask.

im trying to get the network settings correct in order to start viewing. i can see all the channels and even EPG but no picture! i entered the IP which my pc gives me but no luck. according to what i have heard its a simple procedure of plugging it in and working - maybe i need to get a public IP like the ones companies get when using a cctv or for DVB connections.

very confusing I know, but in Africa apparently the ip is a private one and I need to be given a public one.

I'll wait for more feedback and try find a solution

btw the gateway and the other option are in green which means they are ok

Ah so you have a card share problem yes?

Have you paid someone for access to encrypted channels?

ermm....i dont think so. Yes i paid someone - but on the dreambox there is no card - it shoundt have a card.

i need to pick up the 13 degrees hotbird sat with a ku band lnb and all seems to be find except my internet setting - which on the screen says "problem with network settings" and the issue is with the ip.

sorry for being a pain - its been 2 days and no luck on this. waiting to get a public ip and see if it works

Your problem is not about having a public/static ip, it's probably about port forwarding, setting up your router to address incoming data to your dreambox ip. You only need a static ip or dynamic DNS service if you need to watch your Dreambox outside of your network.

But as we are not great fans of paid card sharing subscriptions, I'm afraid that other than what we've given you in general terms cannot be expanded upon.

just a side note,

i have the adsl modem, connected to a router which is then connected to the dreambox - ethernet cable

You have paid for a commercial card share, and under forum rules we cannot give you any more help. We will happily help with other problems you might have with the dreambox, but illegal decryption of pay channels via paid for card share is strictly forbidden here
