Advice Needed Dreambox Nightmare

need a bit of help. A relative was given what looks like a clone DM500S. Im an electrical engineer by trade. The box upgraded its software when hooked to the internet. This has now somehow bricked the unit... Ive made a null modem cable and tried flashing with dreamup (various versions) the software asks to turn unit on, it says it recognises the dm500 then hangs there, other versions say initiating flash update, but hang also. What can I do without resorting to building a jtag cable? The idea was for them to use cardsharing but it never seemed to work!! now ive a elderly couple moaning at me 24/7 for their box.... Please help... if its any use ive a fortec star 4400 here spare can the card sharing thing work with that ?

Look for dreamup for 500s it works better on clones and my guess is your box is a clone.
Also make sure you flash openpli image, nothing else worth putting on it these days.

It'll certainly be a clone - DB500s havent been made for quite a few years.
