Dreambox or AZbox????

I've had a TM1500ci for some time now and ready for the next step in this wonderful world of satellite. I Just wanted to ask you guys what is the best box you recommend. I was looking at the DM8000 or the AZbox, I was thinking of the DM800 but thought the set-up would be similar for the DM8000, its just that I wanted something that'll last for a couple of years with good support. Any advice would be much appreciated.

Both have good support, but the Dreambox will always have the most and newest. You mention the 8000 and the 800. The 8000 is the cream of the crop, though backed up with a hefty price tag £900 / €1000.
The 800 can be had for way less than half that. I think the 800 is a good way to test the water without costing the earth. Lots of support here if you run into trouble...
I think you will find most people are partial to the DM...

Oh yeah, I think you have a typo in "My system" : 900cm dish, now that most of us would kill for! :-)
 
The Azbox is buggy atm - if you are seriously interested in that one Id give it another 6 months.
 
I would wait a month or so as the DM500HD is being released. It looks like it will be a higher performance version of the DM800 and not related to the old DM500 at all.
I have tried the TM9100 when it came out and have been very disappointed with the support - bugs took a long time to get fixed. I have several dreamboxes and all are fairly stable, though the DM800 still has a few quirks, but it is still VERY usable.
I would normally be reluctant to recommend a new box, like the DM500HD, as they all go through teething problems, but it is so closely related to the DM800 that I would be surprised if it is worse than the DM800. I actually expect that some of the cons of the DM800 (like slow remote response) might be fixed by the higher performance processor in the DM500HD.

I would recommend a dreambox regardless.
 
IPBOX9000 i would recommend no doubt.
 
Many thanks for your info guys, the dm500 sounds interesting, jeesh theres so much choice, i'm new to all the Linux c/s scene, so no doubt will be calling on you all for help in the near future. Just out of interest, has the dm8000 got any teething problems thats fairly new isn't it?

AZbox is great FTA receiver and the 1080p playback is a plus, great media playback native DivX/Xvid support!

However; the network speed is limited so no 1080p in actuality for higher bitrate movies. CCcam support is poor, especially for NDS 3 cards, can view but not record; even with MultiCAS (AZbox CAM) freezes horrendously every 5-8 seconds.

Along with the other smaller but still significant bugs it is still far from perfect. The firmware releases are a lot more frequent, yet still have yet to implement twin tuner support and seem to keep sidestepping the major bug as mentioned above which really p***es a lot of their customers off, hardly good business practice!

DM800HD works out of the box...need I say more!!
 
Thanks again, DM800HD it is then. Now I just have to find the best place to get one, any advice? Any sponsors of this forum or anything? I like to put back into the place that helps me.

I was thinking of getting one but was put off because of bad reviews on it not being able to do blind scans... has this been sorted yet in upgrades?

Not when you consider the Vu+ Duo at less than 400€... or the new Clarke-Tech ET. Pity a decent hardware blind scan is missing from all of them.
