If it is the best ever then the opposition must be truly appalling. It isn't stable enough IMO.

1 GigaBlue Quad plus, 1 Dreambox 5620, MOTECK SG2100A DISEqC Motor, 120 cm noname offset dish, Humax 95 cm offset dish and a few UK digiboxes.

There can't be "The Best" because even if it is, some other newer receiver is going to come out topping it. But no doubt it is a very good receiver and very good value for money (at least the 5620 is).

It's a real hobbyist box. Great if you're prepared to invest heavily, not only in $$$ but in time.

I love mine, but as mhku says, the exhaustive testing and quality control is not quite there.

Having said that, my own 7000 has never missed a beat. Only (original) firmware glitches and slightly poor design.

I would be loath to return to a conventional receiver, as I love the flexibility of the Dreambox, but they do also have their faults, the tuner sensitivity being one of them.

Never had a Dreambox, but I consider the Triple Dragon is now up there with the best of the Linux boxes. After a faltering start image-wise, there's plenty to keep the TD owner happy now, and the hardware is second to none.

I think if you said 'Linux receivers' instead of 'Dreambox', then not many folks would pull you up on your statement :)

The Dreambox tuners were better in later boxes, but then they had other weaknesses. Why they couldn't manage to fit a decent power supply until the 7020 appeared is beyond me.

Now, if they would just stuff a much faster processor and a load more memory in the Dreambox 8000, you would have to beat people off with a very big...

STICK.
