Dreambox "serial" recording

Dear all,
i'm planning to switch from my current SatTV provider to Dreambox 800 or 8000 and i would like to check with you whether Dreambox have following specific feature:

Today with my current SatTV provider's receiver+PVR box i can put "serial" recording for a lot of programs which EPG recognise as "serial".
For example - late night economics news or 20:00 hour news or Survivor etc.
I don't have to tell it "record every day from 23:00 to 23:30" i just tell it "record serial AAA"
What it does - every time broadcast of "ordered" serial pops up on EPG the PVR records it.

The difference between this and plain "periodic" recording is when broadcast times are altered due to other programs taking more time than planned - PVR know to adapt and start recording when appropriate.

This works OK at 95%-98% cases.

From your expirience does such feature exist in Dreambox?

I would seriously doubt it, as you would need the same detailed EPG information on the Dreambox and then be able to link the recording process to it..
 
Serial linking is not supported. You have to set up periodic (daily weekly ...) at specific times. By using Rytec's EPG you can get a good 7 day EPG, but this is not used for timer recordings.
 
that's too bad - this is amazing feature !!!
is this bacause Dreambox just can't do it or because EPG doesn't contain serial taging that PVR could rely on?
 
another question - if i look at EPG and order to record tomorrow a program which appears at 20:00 but thst program start and or end were shifted - does Dreambox knows to adjust automatically?
 
The Dreambox is a generic satellite receiver. Each service provider has their own way of providing EPGs, so the dreamboxes cannot support all of these. That is why there are several EPG plugins for the dreamboxes. It should be possible for someone to write a plugin that will support serial linked recording for the dreambox using these EPGs, but it will only be as good as the EPG data available. As all dreambox software is opensource and this will require a significant effort, it will only happen when somebody has enough time and the inclination to do it.

Bear in mind that these boxes are for satellite enthusiasts and not as a replacement for the boxes provided by your service provider - to the contrary, in some cases you might actually be in breach of contract if you put your viewing card in a box other than that provided by your service provider.

If this feature is that important, I suggest you stick with the box you have.

No, For the same reasons as before. To do this it will need a reliable continuously updated EPG.

and if EPG does adjust itself - will recording also be adjusted?

His IP Address resolves to Israel despite his location being given as Russia ......................
