Dreambox stream to Computer not via VLC

I have a dreambox 500, and an AMD 4gb ram.

Hi,

Is there a plug-in or way to stream to a computer via LAN but without using the normal plug-in of VLC?

I am currently using Dreamview which uses VLC and have tried other programs but unfortunately all use VLC.

I wonder why you do not want to use VLC? Do you have problems using it?

I have used VLC for several years now (in Windoze and Linux) and am very pleased with it. I do not use Dreamview. Just use Firefox to open the Enigma web interface (put address _http://192.168.0.24 or whatever your DB IP is in the FF address bar...user: root....Password: dreambox [if you've not changed it]). Select TV...select a bouquet...click a channel (FTA or known to be open)...when the VPID & APID numbers for the selected channel appear...click on the VPID number or the VLC button...Firefox opens a Download box...choose to open the 'video.m3u' file with VLC...after a few seconds I get perfect streaming on my wireless network (so long as I have adequate WiFi signal level).

If you've not tried that method then give it a whirl. I tried TuxVision some years ago, however results were very poor compared to VLC but it may be better now.

The problem with VLC is that many times after a few minutes of watching a channel, the screen suddently gets somewhat garbled and sometimes the audio doesn't sound right.

The video starts shooting green pixels or lines and the audio sometimes has crack sounds. I have tried with the WEB X-TV, Videolan and Dreamview which all use the vlc plugin.

That sounds more like a WiFi signal level/bandwidth problem rather than anything you can cure by moving to a different streaming tool. If I try to stream one of the German channels with a bit rate close to 8Mb/s then I need a very strong WiFi signal or I will get the effect you describe. It may start OK but if I or someone else in the house moves to a different position, the WiFi signal level changes and the picture and sound begin to break. Other channels with lower bit rates will work OK down to lower WiFi signal levels.

Try VLC 0.8.6 rather than version 9.(anything). Also try a wired ethernet connection (assuming you are using WiFi), just to see if the problem still happens when you have full bandwidth on the LAN.

I have a problem similar to this one
the nighbour's dreambox is connected on a wireless g router and turned on the wireless, and i have a acceepoint connected to his router(with his permission).

I can open the enigma web interface.
i select a channel and click on the vpid ( usually its 0x200 i dnt know what it means) and i downloads the video.m3u , i open it with vlc and wait ... about 2-5 mins but no image , i stop it and then click on the "play next" button then it starts to show a video without sound and totally unclear !

but one day suddenly i got a very good image and sound , very good quality, i wanted to see if it works if i open it again but i didn't work and its like before.(no clear image & no sound ).


BUT the audio.pls works fine it self!



I think its bandwidth and signal problems but why i got a very good quality video + sound those times? i was watching about 5 hours without having any problem until i closed vlc.downloaded the video.m3u again but no video at all !

You'll need to test to confirm that it is in fact a problem with poor signal. Surely it would be easy enough to take your laptop to somewhere within range of your neighbours wireless network, then check how the streaming works there.
 
Hey Guys i solved my problem by making a wireless repeater and using a high gain antenna ! :) i get 100 % quality even if i am 500 meters far ....

As previously said my problem is the same as the above guy, the only problem is that I'm through a wired LAN so the signal level shouldn't be a problem. Tried pinging the box and it gave me all positive <1ms feedback! dunno what is the problem

OK on using wired ethernet connection.

However, is there any other load on the router you are using?
If you or someone else is downloading files or streaming this will slow down the routers response to your video stream. I find that bit torrent is particularly bad for this and when anyone on the LAN uses it the router is virtually unusable by anyone else! I have found that when streaming video it is best to have almost exclusive use of the router.

Also, have you made sure to use VLC version 0.8.6 rather than any of the newer 0.9.x versions. This could make a difference. The older version seems best for Dreambox streaming.

Has the PC got any high processor usage background tasks running while you are trying to stream video? This can also cause this type of problem.

Even, has the PC got any trojans that are using processor time or the LAN?

I've noticed the same thing.

The problem is that by default the torrent software opens far too many connections to other torrent users. Most typical cheap routers provided by ISPs are not up to having so many active connections and will throw a wobbly. This will make CS impossible and will cause general problems with LAN/Internet traffic.

The way around it is to go into preferences and severely limit the amount of connections the torrent software will try to make. :)

Yes, Bitcontrol software can do it better than VLC.
