Dual T90 setup

Hi again,

Thanks for the comments and feedback!

In this post I wanted to share some tips about the Samsung LED 3DTV used with the dual T90....

1. Configuring the Samsung TV for a DiSEqC 1.2 switch

The built-in DVB S2 tuner supports DiSEqC 1.0 and 1.2 - as well as USALS. To have access to the maximum number of LNBs I use it with a 16 port EMP-Centauri switch in DiSEqC 1.2 mode. Getting the TV to work with DiSEqC 1.2 switches is very easy:

In the satellite setup menu set
"Positioner Type" = DiSEqC 1.2

then under "User Mode" set
"Moving Mode" = discrete
"Step Size" = 10

You can now select LNB input on the switch by "moving" the dish a step East or West.

There is no need to do anything at all in "Installer Mode".

The rest of the procedure is the same as for any motorized system.... If you are unsure if you have selected the right input on the switch when configuring i.e. Astra 19.2, then just give it a try. Do a channel search and if it does not look right, just step East or West until you find another candidate. Do another channel search and so on....

There is no extra delay when using DiSEqC 1.2 on this TV. Intersatellite channel hopping is pretty instant.

2. Editing the Samsung TV channel lists on a PC

A nice standard feature on the Samsung TV is that can export/import the channel list to/from a USB stick. There a many free tools available to edit these lists - sort and delete channels, mark favourites and so on...

The maximum number of channels (TV or Radio) on the Samsung C series TVs is 5000.

3. Editing the Samsung TV transponder (and satellite) lists on a PC

This is my small contribution in terms of tools...

When you export the channel list from the TV you also export
the transponder list (TransponderDataBase.dat)
and satellite list (SatDataBase.dat)
(at least on my TV model/firmware version).

The file exported has a .scm extension. Rename it to .zip. Open it.
Inside you should find TransponderDataBase.dat and SatDataBase.dat.

These files are binary files, so I have attached a couple of Perl scripts I made which converts them into comma separated text (.csv).

Then these files can be edited and updated just as easy as satellites.xml on the Enigma-based receivers.

I have to give credit to the guys over at a German forum who posted the file format details.

There are at least two or three reasons why you want to edit TransponderDataBase.dat:

A. The transponder lists are outdated - at least for the less popular satellites

B. The first transponder on a satellite is important in DiSEqC 1.2 mode

When you switch satellite the TV apparently detects that is has found the correct satellite by "listening" on the first transponder in the satellite's transponderlist. If the parameters for this transponder are outdated, or if you can not receive it at your location, or can not receive it for any other reason ....the tuner goes into deadlock looking for the satellite.

During setup you can choose which transponder the TV uses when it searches for a satellite, but during normal operation it apparently only uses the first transponder in the list.

C. The LNB settings are the same for all LNBs in DiSEqC 1.2 mode

This is probably not a problem since most LNBs used today are of the "Universal" type.

However - when using a circular LNB or another LNB with i.e. a different local oscillator frequency, in combination with Universal LNBs (like I do), it can be nice to adjust the frequencies in the transponders lists accordingly.

I have played around with the attached scripts a lot, and made all kinds of mistakes, so I do not think there is any way you can brick the TV. Just have the original backup at hand, and import it back if required. There are however no guarantees - use any of the scripts at your own risk.

Cheers!

Hi ChrizK

how about signal on 36E

do you receive NTV+ ?

Cheers

Hi farads

The transponders on 36E are weak, but usually receivable. I don't have a subscription to the NTV+ package.
On my Smartmeter S10 I get quite good signals (and picture on the FTA channels). On the other tuners there are still issues that I am troubleshooting.
I would like to make a dedicated post on circular 36E reception and frequency adjustments when I get a little further.

In addition to the Golden Interstar 102 LNB, I am testing the Invacom QPH-031.

Cheers

As of 8 August 2011 I receive the following channels FTA from 36E:

- on the Vu+ tuner and Smartmeter S10:

W7 11843 L - Telepoisk (ТВпоиск)
W7 11900 R - NTV Plus Infokanal (Инфоканал) + radio
W7 12015 R - Europa Plus TV
W7 12015 R - NHK World TV
W7 12054 R - TV Club
W7 12054 R - TTS
W7 12054 R - TV 3
W7 12054 R - 8 Kanal
W7 12054 R - NTK Orbita (НТК-Орбита)
W4 12174 L - TNV Tatarstan
W4 12226 L - Tricolor Infokanal (Триколор-ТВ)
W4 12265 L - TV Sale
W4 12303 L - Soyuz (Союз)
W4 12303 L - TV Mall

- on Vu+ I can also receive these two linear channels on the Golden Interstar circular LNB:

W7 12511 H - CaspioNet
W7 12521 H - Lider TV

- on the Samsung TV the W4 channels work, but still working on the W7 ones...

It is very nice setup. thank for sharing pic.and how much money did you pay for this setup? :)

Hi Chrizk..

First - It was your post in a google search that is why I joined here as member. It is indeed a very impressive setup you got yourself. :-worship

I am not as technically gifted as you - but have a T-90 and am very happy with it. In Denmark I can take alot of position as you.

Just want to say thanks to you for sharing this setup - I now know what is possible with T-90 and EMP Profiline diseqc - mine is also a 16 ports.

After reading the hole thread I really want to start my car, drive to Norway, come visit you and have a talk about that setup.

Cheers..

Nice choice of satellite receivers. I also have got an Ultimo with a T90 (16 LNBs) on tuner A.

What a fantastic thread... I want to be able to get into installations like this... I wonder if the OP ever says "There's sod all on love, nip down the video shop will ya?"!!

Haha, I came across this thread as I was looking for a TV with built in diseqc switching, looks like I've found one!

Great install!

Very impressive.
What can I say ... This hobby has it's rewards.
Here is an excellent example.
regards from Sunny UAE.
