1.9M dish dual C120 O.3 lnb with sky box and humax hdr . (28.2 East) Also 135CM dish pointed at Nilesat (7 west) BEIN Sports HD

If I purchased a commercial DVD of a latest film, would the quality of the DVD be up to, or beyond that of High Definition TV? I have a full HD TV and also a DVD player which it claims, plays back in HD quality. I know that Blue-Ray is top notch, but a little out of my reach financially. Where is a Commercial DVD in the pecking order, regarding 1910 x 1080p ect.

DVD's are far inferior of HDTV/Blu-Ray in my opinion. DVD's are 720x576 resolution MPEG-2 video while HDTV is 1920x1080 (or 1440x1080) resolution MPEG-4 video and Blu-Ray even has a much much higher bitrate than HDTV.

If your DVD player claims to output HD, then it must do what is called upscaling where it processes the video and makes it look better when stretched up to 1080p resolution.

For me the appeal of HD content is the much added clarity of detail, but watching a DVD on a 1080p TV will look a lot nicer with an upscaling DVD player (which I think you have) but still wont compare to HDTV or Blu-Ray.
