DVI / HDMI wire issue

Hi all. Hoping someone here can help...

I've bought a genuine DM800, and want to hide it in my AV cupboard 5m from the TV.

Obviously the DM800 comes with a 1m dvi-hdmi wire, which works fine (pic and audio). I have tried a 5m hdmi cable with a dvi-hdmi adapter block, and get nothing. I have tried a short cable too, which suggest the block is at fault.

Question is, is the original cable wired specially? Am I going to be able to extend?

Next step is to buy an actual 5m dvi-hdmi cable, but thought I'd ask if anyone has had any success and with what, before I waste more money...?

Thanks. I'd seen that post but its more about lack of sound rather than extending...

So basically there is no aftermarket 5m cable that will do what I want ? :s

I'd have thought though, even if it has extra pins specially wired for sound, i'd at least get a picture using my above method ???
 
Or, would I have any more success using the original DVI-HDMI lead, into a HDMI F-F changer, and then using a normal hdmi lead after that?

I guess what I mean is, is it the dvi or hdmi end (or both) of the original cable that is special?

i know it might seem like a small issue, but i've set the entire lounge up on the basis of being able to do this - if ti cant be done might have to sell and await the 500hd

The HDMI end of the Dreambox DVI-HDMI lead is standard, so you could use an HDMI extension lead connected to it.

Cheers - I'll try that.

Saved me buying another duff lead anyway :)
 
Make sure it's a M/F HDMI lead, not the usual M/M one.

Have actually bought a coupler (F-F) which would do the same thing when paired with my 5m M-M lead.

Twas almost as much as a new lead !!
