All,
I need a bit of help. My ISP has informed me that they do not supply static IP addresses (strange one) so I'm forced to set up the dynamic DNS on www.dyndns.org. Now I have host setup on dyndns and I also downloaded the dyndnsupdater on my PC. Whenever I boot up my PC the updater updates dyndns with my latest dynamic IP. So this is fine but not how I need it to work. I want my router to update dyndns. To this end I have programmed my zyxel p600HW router to do this update. But the darn thing doesn't seem to want to play ball. Do any of you have any experience with this router? Is there a further change required other than in the Dynamic DNS section that I am missing? I have tried to contact Zyxel but have had no luck. Thanks to all for your help and a happy new year. Great forum

i dont have any experience using that router, i use the program on my computer to do the updating but there is a dyndns client available for dreamboxes called idndyn (i think!)

Yes since last year the router thing does not work for me, but the inadyn on the dreambox works fine. I think it even updates if the dreambox is on standby.
Tip: Once you have got it going, save the config file for the inadyn, saves time if you have to install a new image. All you have to do then is FTP it.

Found it. Inadyn. Thanks a million. This will do the job perfectly

Have downloaded it and the conf file is easy to create. There are just a couple of questions (not being of a Linux background). Do I need to transfer all the files in the package onto my dreambox. Reason I ask is why for example would I need a /bin/win32 directory on a Linux machine. Also how can I set it up so that the process will start on reboot of the dreambox. I don't want to have to manually start the process every time. Many thanks

ignore my last comment. inadyn is already on my dreambox. all i need to do is load the conf file. thanks a million for the help and happy new year to all

If you have a gemini image you can download the file from the blue button. As I sai, make a backup of that file once you are sure it all works, then you can use it for new images.

Just an addition: The file you ned to backup is called "inadyn_script.sh" and is in the /var/script folder.

This is just the coolest thing. Ok my router is crap but it does port-forward. Was over for new years dinner with friends and decided to try to open up my dreambox on their PC. And there it was. I could access my TV remotely. Inadyn did exactly what it said it did. I had rang my ISP who said that they couldn't give me a static IP but now it simply doesn't matter. My ISP had set my router to releasing the connection after 60 seconds. When I called them to ask if they could change this they said they couldn't. So I worked out from the router that I could change this myself. So now my IP is not so dynamic (I reset it to 3 hours before release on my router). I also set Inadyn to check every 60 minutes for a new IP so I'm covered. Guys ye are the best. For starters I didn't even know I could access my dreambox from the internet until I started reading stuff on this forum. This box is just deadly. And this forum rocks.

Glad to hear you are sorted. Not sure why you set it to 60 minutes, I have mine set to one minute just to be sure :)
Don't really know if it matters though.

T-G,
Reason I set it to 60 minutes was because dyndns insisted that if you tried to constantly update they would block your requests. If you say 60seconds is acceptable I will use this instead. Its really funny. I figure I don't know 1/10 of what this box can really do. But the 1/10 I do know is just the best

Hmmmm good to know about this. Maybe I should increase the time interval. On the other hand, it's been working like this for over a year now, so I might just leave it for now.

P.S. yes, the Linux boxes are good to play with, but even though I have been doing it for a few years there are still some white areas in there I haven't completely explored :)

Could I suggest to the moderator that a library is setup to work with eack plugin for the dreambox. It might help to give an understanding to all as I really haven't used many of the usually installed plugins in the standard images
