Hi all,

I'm considering an e2 box, one such as the SF8008. I was wondering if this or if all e2 receivers can display signal in decibels?

Also provided a receiver and app are on the same network can they connect for real time signal display?

Regards

Yes, most E2 images that I have used have the option to display signal levels in dB and %

If you are on the same LAN as the E2 receiver you can use the WebIf to connect to the receiver and view the signal level.
However, if you use the screen grab option of the WebIf you will need to refresh the page to update the signal level display.
There is an option to auto refresh the WebIf at an interval of your choice. You could get it to refresh every few seconds.

There is also the option to stream the E2 channels to VLC in real time apart from the initial connectivity latency.
I am not sure if this option lets you view all the menu screens in VLC as I have not tested it.

i have two SF-8008s - yes you can change from SNR to DB. but this is pretty standard i think in e2 - however maybe not all hardware can report on both accurately

How many decimal points show when using the dB value?
Can one adjust the amount of decimal points?

I thought there was a phone app. I may be thinking of the VU+ range of receivers.

yes there are a few apps which hook into E2 when on your LAN (or portforwarded on WAN)

why do you want more than one decimal place?

Interesting, which Android apps would you consider as useful and can an E2 box be fully controlled with them?

My Webif just shows a percentage under SNR, even the part that says DB.

well i use "SignalMeter" on Android - its how i align my dish when outside

it hooks into your E2 bouquet

you can do bits from it, inc screen shots etc \ signal meter etc \ change channel (and sat position)

Screen grabs taken from WebIf of Edision Nino Pro E2 receiver attached below.
It shows both dB in both the signal finder menu and the channel info.

Does your Edision receiver grab those T2-MI transponders natively or do you have to pass it through astra-sm?

If you are referring to the two screen grabs I uploaded above from 53.0E in C-Band the receiver cleared the pictures without having to use astra-sm.

Must be the skin/box then, since my Vu+ Blackhole is on Openwebif and looks like this: Webif - OpenPLi Wiki

Not all boxes will give a proper DB value, my Gigablue and my Vu+ uno 4k se don't. I believe all boxes from these manufacturers won't.
Some skins can get around this by 'calculating' the value, and displaying it, but is not as accurate as a real DB value.

Short answer: NO!!!
Long answer: It depends exclusively on the type of tuner used in the receivers in combination with the tuner driver. Receivers with Silabs, Montage and Availink tuners can display dB natively and quite accurately. This includes brands such as Octagon SF, Edision OS series with E2, Mutant HD, Axas, new Dreamboxes etc.
On the flipside, most tuners in VU+ receivers will either not display dBs or display them incorrectly, since Vu has a weird policy to create drivers that do not allow db readings, even if they natively support it. Some Gigablue models do that too.
SF8008 is more than fine with dB.
