I've often played around with external wi-fi antenna and led to understand that by earthing the antennas ground helps to reduce signal noise as well offering lightning protection. Hense, I have always installed an earthing cable directly to an earthing rod below it.
But when it comes to satellite dishes, I've never really thought about earthing it. Mine isn't all that high up (wall mounted), so unlike a the virtical rod of the wi-fi antenna which points into the clouds, I've never thought one really necessary.
But after watching a satellite internet provider video, where I spotted an earth cable (see screenshot below), I wondered if it would make any difference to noise on a satellite. My gut feeling is it wouldn't make any difference. Then I wonder if this obsession of fitting earthing to wi-fi antenna is flawed and actually makes no difference to signal quality/noise.
I'm sure there will be 2 camps here, some will swear by it and some will say it is rubbish. But I wondered what members thoughts are about earthing and if you have earthed your setup?
