A Russian site, utilising ground and space based detection.

Some of the findings are eerily accurate.

Japan didn't appear on the charts, even though a large magnitude quake was long overdue.

which suggests Alaska is next, before the west coast of the US.

LA is also suspected of being late for a large one, the tsunami is about 6 hours away from there, and warnings have already been posted.

And the link of the sun-cycles, with cycle 24 now on the rise.

The last one was abnormally long at 12.6 years, the average over the last two centuries has been 10.7, give or take a fraction, which suggests cycle 24 may be somewhat shorter, but faster in the flux changes between trough and peak, which is about now.

Predictions below

"Even a below-average cycle is capable of producing severe space weather," points out Biesecker. "The great geomagnetic storm of 1859, for instance, occurred during a solar cycle of about the same size we’re predicting for 2013."

The 1859 storm--known as the "Carrington Event" after astronomer Richard Carrington who witnessed the instigating solar flare--electrified transmission cables, set fires in telegraph offices, and produced Northern Lights so bright that people could read newspapers by their red and green glow. A recent report by the National Academy of Sciences found that if a similar storm occurred today, it could cause $1 to 2 trillion in damages to society's high-tech infrastructure and require four to ten years for complete recovery. For comparison, Hurricane Katrina caused "only" $80 to 125 billion in damage.

The older radio amateurs will know about 10.7cm flux and how it can be used to benefit dxing through photo-ionisation.

For those that don't

_http://www.nrc-cnrc.gc.ca/eng/services/hia/radio-monitoring.html

and how this links back to determining solar cycle periods

I just watch the cows, if their standing on East side of the San Andreas fault we a re going to have a big one, if they are on the West side then we can relax, and the biggest we can have along this strike-slip fault is around an 8.

It's the subduction fault zone along the Oregon to Alaska corridor we worry about, we can get an 9+ out of that one.

Aceh (again) this morning, the 8.7 initial quake isn't thought to have caused major issues, owing to it being nearly 300 miles offshore, however there are some reports of aftershocks somewhat nearer to the populace measuring up to 6.5.

The earth appears to be moving about again.

Some 4.5+ tremors in the past four hours, and a couple of 6's in other parts of the world.
