Echostar 3000IPVA help please!

I wonder if anyone can help me?
I have an Echostar 3000IPVA, great machine, which I have had for about 10 years or so.
It has started playing up, so I did a 'restore Factory defaults'.
Stupidly, I didn't make a note of the LNB settings, and cannot remember what it was set to.
I suspect that there is a good chance that the answer will be "depends on what LNB you have", to which my reply would be "don't know".
Question is, can anyone tell me what it should be or, what it is likely to be?

Just checked my Echostar 3000IPVia. If your LNB is Universal (just the main cable to it, no other cables for polarity) then try the following:-

Menu then go to Installation, select LNB setting:-

1 Lnb type : Type 1
2 LNB Freq Low : Universal
3 LNB Freq High : Universal
4 DisEqC : none
5 DisEqC Port : 1
6 Polarity : 13/18V
7 LNB Freq Band Control : 0/22kHz
8 Ku/C Control : Disable
9 0/22 kHz Control : Off
10 0/12V Conrol : Off
11 LNB Power : On
12 Loopthrough for analogue : On


The Echostar starts to do funny things when it's memory fills up. Try deleting unused satellite positions and unused transponders and channels. Also if it still plays up disconnect from electricity completely for a couple mins.

Another tip is if you do not listen to radio stations on satellite delete these also. Clearing the memory of these unused things restores the receiver back to normal behaviour

I'm pretty sure my problems were caused by the memory filling up over the years. I've deleted satellites, transponders, channels etc over time, but the problem recently got worse, and after a scan, I couldn't even save the settings, hence the restore.

Switching it off and on again didn't help either.

I presume restoring to factory defaults clears the memory totally? I will only add the satellites I want back again (only 2 or 3 these days). Should give me another 10 years!

No, the satellite database is permanently held in memory. Only edited/added data is lost when factory resetting.

Ah!
Which is how it knows which satellites to scan if you choose to perform an auto scan, I presume?
Should still be ok, as I am sure it is all the adding and editing I have done over the years which has filled the memory?

Yes, 3000 channels was considered plenty when the box first appeared way back then. As renibacterium said, deleting unwanted channels (or better still complete TP's) will free your memory up.

I use mine now just for the positioner, as I use other STB's and a PC satellite card for scanning sats.

I keep thinking about changing the Echo, but this whole satellite 'hobby' seems so much more complicated than it did a few years ago (magic module, matrix reloaded, funcards, elvis programmer etc) when it was fun.

Linux receivers, cas programmers, keys updated every day - haven't really got the time (or inclination if I'm honest) so think I'll just stick with the Echo until it finally gives up the ghost!

BTW, I have deleted TPs many times to free memory, as I kept getting a 'buffer full' message when scanning, but I imagine that some residue of all the adding/editing/deleting must have been left, as I had far less than 3000 channels stored on there in the finish, when it started doing really strange things. S'pose it could have a fault - find out tonight when I start re-installing it all!
