My Satellite Setup
Loads of stuff
I have one of theese for years and ita worked fine.
last night I was tring to download new satellites and there was a power cut.

Now when the set is plugged in I get a flasing --:-- like it wants the clock setting. Taking out of standby you hear a click and the LED's go 'round in circles' like its trying to start but stays there.

I have tried to connect the set to re flash using the same cable as I use for a humax but it won't do anything other than flash like it wants a clock or as described .

I should have said the screen is blank (black)

Any Ideas??

Thanks

It sounds like it's stuck in searching mode, the chasing ants.
Do you have it connected to your television using a scart lead?
Is there nothing displayed when you press the menu button?
Have you tried leaving it unplugged for five minutes?
I would try re-loading the latest firmware for it, which can be obtained from Echostar:
_http://www.echostareurope.com/support.htm
You just use a null modem cable, and your PC/Laptop to update the receiver.
Check the PC and receiver software sections, for the loader and firmware.
Also check the FAQ's pages as they could help.

When you power it up from cold, does the bootloader message appear on the front before it flashes (e.g 1100)?

If not, the bootloader is corrupt, and needs reflashing as you have attempted to do. It has to be a null cable of course, as Mickha said.

Hi I have never seen a bootloader message. It has always gone from clock to 'chasing ants' (which pleases the cat,) to the channel number. I have never uploaded anything to this box (until I tried today)

The lead I am using is perfect with a Humax 5400 so should be OK ??
Using official Echostar upload S/w and the 1100 bin file I start with the
--:-- set the software running and press the standby button on the set . It just 'chases ants'

So If I need a new bootloader How do I upload it?

Regards and thanks for your help

Take out any CAM / PCMCIA module before powering up.

The Echostar combi receivers can have trouble powering up if there is a CAM inserted (Dragon/TRex are high current consumption)

Download the bootstrap from here -

_www.echostareurope.com/support_pc_software.asp

Upload to the STB, then 1100 S/W

I have both files but I can't get it out of the chasing ants loop

If the bootloader is corrupt then how do you load a new bootloader?

Thanks

Obviously more than just a booting problem.Maybe a power supply fault connected with the power outage, or the eeprom/flash chip damaged. Other than that, don't really know, sorry.

Then it probably isn't serious.

Disconnect everything from the back of the box, pull out all cards and CAMs and try applying power on the naked machine.

That makes no difference.
IIRC , when working, taking out of standby there was a relay click then dancing ants and a second click before the picture/ menu came up. There is no second click now.

Yes, that's correct. I'll see if I can get a clue as to when the relay is supposed to operate/release again on my spare Echostar, obviously a signal from the eeprom. Difficult to trace signals though without a schematic of the receiver circuit.

I am almost certain its a PSU problem. I don't have a diagram or the time/inclination to fix it so I'll get rid of it on Ebay for spares. I was going to anyway, as I use the Humax all the time so in a way its a blessing as I would not have wanted to get rid of a dud!

Thank you for all your help

Don't ditch it yet as the 3000 was and is quite a good machine to keep if you have a four wire motor system.

I would gladly try to get the machine running as it should

Whereabouts are you ?
