Echostar AD3000ip Help needed

Hi I am an electronics engineer but new to Digital satellite receivers, I was given a faulty AD3000ip which had a faulty Power supply, this problem I solved quite easily and the PSU now produces all the correct voltages, the problem now is the receiver switches on but just shows the revolving dash on its display. From reading the forums this seems to mean the receiver needs new software, however using the Echoloader software and any versions of their software , including the bootloader, the loading process never starts. With the receiver in this condition is there any other way to initiate loading or is it likely the original power supply fault has done more damage?

after checking Echostars technical FAQ I found the same answer as you for the only reason for this problem, the only things you can try are using the EchoNav loader, available at echostar-int.com support downloads, another computer, as it might be a COM port problem or a different null modem cable.
There is also bootstrap software on that page which might be worth checking out.
I hope you get it working as it's a nice receiver.

Thanks I have used the computer and null modem cable on a Humax and a Manhattan which both worked fine however I was considering buying a better quality cable as the one I have is very thin and I was wondering how good the screening is. The other information apart from speeds I can't seem to get out of Echostar is what the other settings on the computer com port should be ie stop bits, parity etc. I would love to get it going but if it involves a £50+ bill to send it to Echostar for a new prom I'll probably make do with the Manhattan receiver

I wouldn't think it's the cable if you have used it successfully with other STB's.

The RS232 standard parameters are used with the Echostar e.g. 8 data bits, parity zero,1 stop bit. Recommended Baud rate 9800.

The PSU fault could of course have damaged a component(s) but without knowing the extent of this damage it would be hard to pinpoint exactly which supply line caused the fault.
