Hi guys,

I was thinking of getting an Echostar AD3000IP second hand from ebay for my Astra 1 dish, so I could benefit from both Analogue & Digital transmissions..

Anyone used one? They any good? What would be a good price?
 
They are an excellent receiver, if rather slow and dated now. Two of the staff here own them - myself and mod Llew, and Id never get rid of mine.

Unless you stick a cam and a card in it theres no chance of opening pay tv - patches are just about unheard of for them.

Apart from Eurosport in English theres nothing available in analogue that isnt fta in digital on 19E, and analogue transmissions are steadily decreasing. We expect them to cease in 2010-12

Price - anything up to 100 quid.

It sounds good! Literally all I have my Pace MSS500 for is Eurosport now (plus it looks amazingly retro ;))

I was just after FTA stuff, so the box sounds like it'll be a great buy! :)
 
I have had the 3600ip for around 8 years now and still works like a dream and can also drive a dish via 12v output.None of your diseqc mince or usals.Just pure power to drive a large dishBuy one,IMHO.

Hi - hope you dont mind a 'newbie' type question.

I'm thinking about getting an Echostar 3000-IP and using it with a fixed dish initially until i get up to speed. I'm having a problem with the terminology being used to describe the motorised systems. Is ana actuator the same thing as a motor? Are actuators the predecessors of what i'm seeing now as motors (motech etc). Will an Echostar 3000 be able to drive a 'newer' motor not an actuator? Someone quotes 12v DC out, is this moreorless the standard for a motor if 36v is required for an actuator? Or am i talking complete drivel :confused:

Point me in the right direction , pleeeeaaassseee :)
 
A motor driven by the Echostar can be either an actuator (using a polar mount for your dish) or something like a Jaeger 99 motor, which doesn't need a special mount like the actuator. Both are driven by the 36V positioner incorporated in the receiver.

THe Echostar won't drive Diseqc type motors, as it doesn't have the required Diseqc control output.

The old Echostars are just about bomb proof, although they do show their age these days. Channel changing is relatively slow, but they are ideal first boxes for a beginner to the hobby.

yes - agreed --
also the Strong 4375 -- a similar age of reciever -- with more or less the same features --- its last software upgrade gave it diseqc motor control too -- never as popular as the echostar - but a good all round work-horse none the less -- i still have one of each in regular use.
