In addition to an ancient copper wire landline telephone infrastructure capable of delivering no more than 1Mbps Broadband (Overcome for most residents by using Fixed Wireless Access and VOIP in lieu), the said copper wires are carried from the cabinet at the edge of the village on poles.

Those same poles also carry our electricity supply.

The consequence is that the village is festooned with wire ..... but, at long last, Northern Powergrid, at the behest of our National Park Authority, have started moving the electricity cables underground.

No word yet as to when Openreach get around to doing the same with their stuff, but I'm not holding my breath!
 
From what you've posted I couldn't see you moving back to wired communication anyway as what you have now is fast enough and, most crucially, significantly cheaper than before.
 
I doubt that Northern Powergrid will be burying the cables round here for some time to come, there's just so many that it'd probably cost more than its worth to do so...
 
Well, it seems that the left and right hands are not yet acquainted: I've just found out that Openreach aren't planning to remove their cables for another two years!

And, just to add insult to injury, most of the denuded poles will remain as they also carry our street-lighting.

Remarkable.
But won't that change after Brexit, when Poland and the UK do not necessarily have agreements working visas and permits?
