I dont really know where to post this, so I apologise if its in the wrong place.

I currently have a DM500 loaded with the DarkStar II Image, So far so good! its alot better than most other images I have tried.

However im unsure if its just the DM500 or if its an issue that all dreambox owners face.. or maybe just me?

EPG...

although the DS II Image is about the most readable EPG that I have tested it still seems somewhat confusing? and not always that easy to read, I have looked around at some of the EPG Plugins however they also seem to be lacking in places, or the ones that look great are web based so are lacking in listings.

Do any other models have better EPG? e.g DM800?
Or does anyone have any suggestions for an EPG Plugin?

Ok now to my main question / suggestion:

Translation

One thing that I think would really improve the EPG, especially for someone like myself who is very limited language wise (im english and we are lazy mofo's and dont learn other languages, hell we dont even learn our own correctly! lol)

Would be an EPG Translation, mainly just for movie names, where it could either read from a user created database or somehow use google translation and convert the EPG movie title into english or maybe even any other language?

I think something like this would be awsome, I would even be more than happy to fund the development of such a plugin.

Unless something already exists that does this or something similar?

Look forward to some replies

Interesting post.
Which packages / channels do you have in mind?
AFAIK there isn't such a plugin.
The nearest thing that I did was to use the TuxCommander plugin to open text files that I prepared beforehand which have the weekly schedules for few of my favourite channels in the original language (I can manage foreign languages easily), but you can add the translation to such text files and use it instead.
The trouble with TuxCommander is that you need to keep the text line short, as it will not show the whole line (there is no scrolling like in Windows browsers).
When you have such a file, upload it to the receiver using FTP application to a subfolder like /schedules
I also use another plugin for Dreambox: Web Browser and browse online to a suitable mainly text schedules website like Eurotv, but you can't use this in your 500S as you need HDD or USB flash stick.
All these plugins are used with Gemini image. Not sure if your image would install them. If your box is a clone, beware of Gemini.
Hope that this helps.:)

As for packages I was looking at premiere & digital+

However I have just about everything east so if there was anyway to do it i would glady keep everything up to date for as many packages as I could.

I have my 500S hooked up to my nas which it uses as a hard drive, however im thinking of upfrading to the 800 HD PVR.

Also my 500 is a clone but I have an image with the malicious code removed from the latest 4.60 gemini image, I also have changed my mac address to a legit one just for extra safety But I can always install stuff via telnet / ftp.

Please would you explain a little further about what you did regarding tuxcommander?

Thank you for your time.

Looking at the Premiere package
_http://www.lyngsat.com/packages/premiere.html
I can see that several channels send teletext which usually has the schedules and more information on certain pages like page 300 onwards.
(I don't receive Astra, only Hot Bird 13E)
This should help you to check what will be shown during the day and night.
Also, if they send an EPG, then you just have to try to understand the text.
For films, the name of the actors will not change so you can try to guess the film title using other sources.

The Premiere website has a programme schedule TV-Guide
_http://www.premiere.de/premweb/cms/de/programm_tv-guide_programmuebersicht.jsp
Also today's schedule
_http://www.premiere.de/premweb/cms/de/programm_tv-guide_programmuebersicht.jsp
_http://download.premiere.de/tvguide2pdfdocument/tvguide_2009-01-25.pdf
You can print it and use it.
Also
_http://www.premiere.de/premweb/cms/de/programm_tv-guide_downloads_ohne_design.jsp
For films, there is a choice of either pdf or txt files sorted by date or title.
I am attaching the text file here for January 2009, but it is a very long list and you can consider splitting it up on a daily or a weekly basis.
If you run it through Google Language Tools (copy > Paste), you can get an approximate translation from German to English.
Use a split part, otherwise Google will get tired and stop translating at some stage.
If you have TuxCommander installed, you can upload the original or the translated file to var/schedules/premiere/jan2009/file name.txt using FTP application.
Open tuxcommander from the blue button > plugins > tuxcom
Browse to the file and open it by pressing option 4 on the remote.
TuxCommander is just like a notepad for windows.
Same procedure with Digital+, only I am not sure if they have such an excellent TV guide like Premiere.
If you want my honest opinion, then you should consider subscribing to a good printed German TV Guide which can save you a lot of time and also save a bit on the printing from a website using your PC.
I subscribed for many years, but as there are now less German channels on Hot Bird 13E, I canceled the sub.
There might be such magazines or even a dedicated Premiere TV Guide on the Newsagents Stand or you can always take a personal subscription which is a lot cheaper. This is an example:
