This area if for membership problems only. But briefly, any FTA box for BBC,ITV. For CH4,CH5 a Sky Digibix + freesatfromsky card is easiest way.

Have you tried posting in the correct area yet.? What happens when you try? You are setup OK, according to the limited information I have available.

Depends on what your definition of FTA box is. in the USA an FTA box means an stb containing patched software which allow the user towatch encrypted channels without a subscription charge
In Europe it means an stb designed purely for watch Free To Air programs and nothing else.

Ebay or one of the forum sponsors can oblige

Have you checked the dish size you'll need for the BBC in Tenerife? It will have to be very large.

I know that a large dish is required for Sky, but the complex I live on other apartment owners have a set top box connected to the arial, with a screw in connection similar to the Sky box connection.

The arial is already insitu just needs connecting.

So all I need is the box and arial connections

So are other apartment owners getting Sky and BBC channels?

If BBC etc is through a terrestrial re-broadcast system, then you will need to get the receiver recommended by the re-broadcaster, as it will need to be set up specifically for that service.

If the dish that the sat point in your appartment is connected to is a small one (i.e. 80 or 90 cm) then it will only be capable of picking up the signal from ASTRA 2A south beam, ASTRA 2B south beam, ASTRA 2C and Eurobird fixed beam. Youe will receive a strong signal on all these beams and should be able to use any Sky Digibox. You will receive "five" but not any of the other channels you mention.

If however it is a large dish (e.g. a 2.4 m Channel Master dish or a 3.2 m prime focus dish) that is designed to pull in transponders on ASTRA 2A north beam, ASTRA 2B north beam and ASTRA 2D then your choice of receiver is much more important. In this case and assuming you just want a receiver and not SKY+ or SKY HD then I would go for a PACE 2600C1 receiver which can be bought on eBay for around £40 (e.g. this example). There is another PACE receiver known as a "mini box" (it is very slim and has an external power supply) which has an equally good tuner, however these tend to be more expensive as they are sought after by caravanners for whome space is a premium. You would be ill advised to consider any other digibox for fringe reception.

Note. If you are on the big dish then do not expect to receive all the ASTRA 2D and ASTRA 2A/2B north beam transponders. Also, depending on what region your viewing card is, you may need to tune ITV and BBC1/2 in using the "Other Channels" feature. BBC1 Scotland is the strongest in the Canaries. You should also receive C4. You will not receive Eurobird Steerable beam in the Canaries.

Can you clarify what you mean by the above?

I read it as you get the normal Sky channels from the dish and BBC etc from a separate set top box, connected to another feed, is this the case and is this a terrestrial feed?

I just noticed a comment on another thread where an installer in Lanzarote states that the conditions vary in each of the Canary Islands. Therefore I just want to add that my comments relate specifically to my experience in Gran Canaria and may not be exactly right for Tenerife. Sorry about that.

If it is the arial system they are using you can either hire the box for 45 euros a month which gives you the channels you want. Or you can purchase for a one off for 600 euros more or less. This one is through the retransmission they have here which is the arial and box.
If the complex has a 3 metre dish you could just link up to that using a sky box. These are the two systems i know are available.

Before you part with money to buy into a re- transmission system, bear in mind these are completely illegal and could be switched off at any time. There have been claims that organised crime is involved in re-transmission in Spain.
