Hi all

I note there are quite a few members on the forum in the Rome area. When I was here before I happily recieved BBC etc, but now...

Now I've returned and will probably end up staying somewhere between Maccarese and Bracciano. Anyone with experience and/or suggestions in maximising the number of UK channels I can recieve?

I will subscribe to Sky UK if neccessary, but really I'd be happy if I could get the BBC channels, ITV, Ch4, Ch5.

Any success stories? With what equipment?

Cheers
Ron

Hi Ron,
You can receive Channel 4 and 5 with a 1.25m dish 24 hrs a day but for the BBC and ITV you'll be looking at a very very large dish indeed!
Check out the Astra 2D website http://www.astra2d.co.uk/ for more information on exactly how big (and costly!) this large dish would cost you.
best regards
D.

Sad, so sad.

Still, regular access to Countdown would count for something.
I have a digibox from before with the FTA card and all that. Will this suffice or do I need to subscribe to Sky or anything.

If the FTA card you refer to has a picture of a yellow house on it then you should be ok.

Hi Denis, hi all

Unfortunately I don't think it has, but sure I could get on ewithout too much hassle. I haven't looked at what has been sent to my UK address since BBC left and (I believe) new cards were issued.

I followed your link but couldn't find any info about large dishes. Do you know of any suppliers in Italy? I know they are expensive, but as we are shortly (I hope) buying a house I might be able to wangle it into the mortgage or whatever.

Sorry bud, I don't know a supplier of big dishes here. I bought my 1.25m offset here:
http://www.mondotec.it/ but they only go to about 1.5/1.8m. Excellent site and service though.
I remember an Irish guy who installed a big dish south of Rome last year and as far as I know it's picking up 2D....can't think of his name........remember it now!
Meatball!!
Try a search for his posts and maybe drop him a line.....worth a try.

Normally for solid reception form Astra 2 D in Rome you need a 3.0 -4.0mtr and then the dish setup as to be of the best quality - Patriot , precision, Prodelin etc, normally with c 120 flange feed + LNB.

there are reports from south of Rome (100 Km) with a 2.4mtr however the dish is a professional VSAT uplink/down link dish

"IRTE" are based in Italy and do have retail dishes upto 3.0 mtr and on the professional front several interesting oppotunities 4.0 mtr is no problem

http://www.irte.it/antenne

A useful link for 2 d reception in italy is at
