A little less analogue, and a lot more crap.

No chance. Its brinkmanship - Sky need Discovery & Discovery need Sky.

There might be a few days or weeks with the Disco channels missing but it'll all be sorted out behind the scenes.

Unless they deal with BT?
I'm sure BT would love to get one over on Murdoch

I might actually be tempted to sub to a BT / Discovery package - we watch a lot of Eurosport coverage especially during the winter as the missus likes the various skiiing events.

Ive had a BT Youview box for a while now and I'm impressed with it, easy to operate (even the wife can work it!)
and it has some great features, the remote is excellent
I have BT phone and Fiber Broadband, so it cost me an extra £10 a month.

Strange thing was we had BT sports through the Sky box but I could never get sport through the smartphone app (kids wanted UFC while away)
I rang BT to ask why... and cut along story short they ended up sending me a free box and fixed the app too lol
I added more channels which is why I pay £10 a month now.

By the way, Eurosport and Discovery are already available on BT for a fee.

Our broadband isnt up to any ip delivery & the dtt signal is lousy here. In fact I removed the aerial after DSO back in late 2008 as I couldnt get a strong enough signal through all the trees between us & Selkirk transmitter. So I need a satellite delivery :D

These are, what I consider to be, core channels. Almost every package in Europe/world carries them. For Sky to lose them because of pure greed is unthinkable. There will be riots!

I am guessing this only affects Sky UK and its German and Italian counterparts?

U.K. only, I distinctly remember when Murdoch took over Germany's Premier service they got Discovery Networks to sign a golden handshake deal on exclusivity on certain channels so that rival cable firms etc couldnt carry said channels which is sly as *"£@, so I have no faith that Feb 1st will be the day that Discovery find a set of nuts metaphorically speaking.

To be honest I think NatGeo is miles better, I like Air Crash investigation, the Discovery channel had a similar show but it was awful, they got facts wrong etc, quoting a 737 as "400 ton" WTF? Discovery "Turbo" was Discovery "Wings" before the rebrand and I watched that more. I like aviation, not repeats of 2000 era episode's of Wheeler Dealers or what ever the tosh is called! No Ta! lol

Discovery have already fallen out with Sky Germany and removed Eurosport 1HD from the Sky package! Its now part of the HD+ operation..

Interesting, may explain why Virgin have given free access to SD Sky sports channels for 6 weeks, probably to make up for loss of Eurosport if it happens.

Wont Virgin and BT have separate deals with the likes of Eurosport/Discovery?
maybe they will just carry on showing their channels after they get removed from sky..... Unless of course they are on Virgin and BT as part of a Sky package?

If they do indeed have separate deals then I would be interested how many sky customer actually move over providers, based on this loss alone.
For some it may just be the final straw after price hikes and losing some football to BT already.

This won't affect Virgin and BT customers as they have their own deals with Discovery Networks.

The only way it would affect Virgin would be if they are receiving their feeds of the channels via the Sky platform (some of their channels are sourced in this way and re-encoded for cable). But I would have thought they get their own feeds directly from Discovery. They'll certainly have to if they're removed from satellite.
