Where to next for Eutelsat 28A is it destine for a new location ?
 
28A is almost certain to be redeployed elsewhere.

Interestingly the old S2 beam (the one centred over Germany) no longer appears on the Eute 28A page on the Eutelsat site

Ha! I wondered if they'd do something like this. Also look at those footprint pages, very interesting as they show more detail on the edges of the footprints.

I'm happy to see the "28G" Europe footprint covers a good portion of Finland too, much more than SES let on!!

Yes the footprint for Astra 2G Europe is smaller that depicted for Eutelsat 28G :)

SES only shows up to 46dBw whereas Eutelsat tends to show up to 42dBw on their footprints.

It's interesting to see how the UK spots touch the edge of Spain/Portugal too.
 
So is Astra 2G transfered to this 28.5 place then ?
 
28.5 east no longer in use as it makes more sense to move the satellites closer as with 19.2 east & 13 east ect.

Eutelsat was @ 28.5 east due to the restrictions of their licence to operate here,

Astra-2G http://www.n2yo.com/?s=40364 = 28.26

28.5 was an old carry over from Kopernikus-2 later adopted by Eutelsat with Eutelsat 2F4 http://www.tbs-satellite.com/tse/online/sat_eutelsat_2f4.html
Then in 2001 Eutelsat launched Eurobird-1 later renamed Eutelsat 28A

28.2 east started in 1998 with Astra 2A

  • DFS-Kopernikus 1: 23.5° East, later moved to 33.5° East (1989–1994)
  • DFS-Kopernikus 2: 28.5° East (1990–2000)
  • DFS-Kopernikus 3: 23.5° East (1992–2002)
 
So why does eutelsat webpage still says 28.2/28.5, if 28.5 location is not even used anymore?

Perhaps it's a "virtual" location for their new "virtual" satellites 28E/28F/28G. ;)
 
I reckon it's to preserve the myth that they still have satellites of their own there. Simple vanity.
 
Lyngsat still has it down as 28A at 28.5 E.

I thought it might still be called Eurobird though, based on the receiver listings in the living quarters :-lol
 
TLE for Eutelsat 28A/33C has appeared, now at 30.7°E, and will arrive at 33°E on 10 or 11 July.

Hope some good channels start on 33e europe beam, as its reaching close to India too. :-woohoo
