I'm surprised you can receive Mashreq beam well in Romania, satesco!
Anyway here and surely in England as well (where BigMouse is), there is no signal at all from this beam.

I am not suprised ... see footprint..

I decided on changing my setup and I have now lost this feed.
Does anyone have a strong signal I can try to lock onto.

Thanks

No Joy here at all - very frustrating. I have upgraded from a 1.4M dish that could pick up a weak signal (6 - 7db) to a 1.8M. I have a pretty good idea where I should be pointing the new dish and I have been slowly working a 5-10 deg Azimuth and adjusting the inclination with no sign of a signal. Is it possible the new LNB is faulty or perhaps assembled / positioned incorrectly? should I try searching for a stronger signaling satelite in this area to test this or change the LNB to the one from the 1.4m dish that I still have?

What 1.8 dish do you have please ?. 33E is an easy catch try for the polsat channels here.

The satellite at 30.8E is in inclined orbit. Once the satellite gets to the point where the incline is above or below the arc to the degree where your dish cannot get a signal you lose pictures.

As I type this, the satellite is 0.44 degrees south of the arc and my Dundalk SIS feed is breaking up with the dish on the arc point. To keep a lock on this satellite you need inclined orbit tracking gear. It seems my dish can manage +/- 0.4 degrees deviation above and below the arc but beyond that it loses the signal.

In all probability SIS have chosen this satellite for the horse racing feeds due to the cheap transponder costs associated with inclined orbit satellites. SIS don't care if the Betfair "In Running" boys can receive the pictures or not as they (SIS) have inclined orbit tracking gear in their uplink vans and at their studio downlink sites.

I use 11637H 2222 5/6 as a reference signal. Sometimes it carries video showing turkish promos, other times it has no PAT associated with it, but it is always there 24/7

If you have a clear line of sight to the satellite you should be able to pick up the Turksat promo feed on 11637H, SR2222 without any problem at all. I have partially blocked line of sight which means I get breakup as the satellite gets beyond 0.4 degrees North or South of the arc.

However, as the inclination increases to greater +/- North and South of the arc than todays maximum of 0.476 degrees inclined, the probability of signal loss will increase. Quite a few years ago SIS used 21.5E for their horse racing feeds, this satellite was around 2.5 degrees inclined at the time if I remember correctly. At this level of inclination, inclined orbit tracking gear becomes mandatory to keep a permanent lock on the satellite.

There's a few code men in this thread......

Ive tidied the more off topic stuff up a bit.

A little more off topic stuff but I hope you find it interesting:

Unfortunately there is always interest in the SIS feeds - and over the years I (and no doubt other members of staff here) have been offered money many times for the secret of getting the SIS feeds. In fact at one point a few years ago we had to explicitly ban any discussion of them as we were getting bombarded with requests on how to get the gee gees.

Im yet to see a penny of all the generous offers - which is a shame as it would have all gone to Chris to help with the running costs of the forum !
