I'm sorry, but your hope isn't mine. And that's only because from the point of view of the devices we have,as amateurs,I think it's going to be many years before we can receive a signal from a quantum satellite!I want to be wrong, but the new technology is "the death" of our passion...:(

Yes that is a bit confusing probably poor communications at the ground station? Maybe the test will be transferred to 9 east as soon somebody realizes what is happening as these transponders on 5W will be turned off next week so it seems like a pointless exercise starting on 5 W :eek:

I have changed the title of this thread after consulting Eutelsat as there is no confirmation available regards to the eventual satellite position that Quantum will occupy at this moment in time,

This satellite can operate at any location on the satellite belt & duplicate any footprint of the satellite it replaces.
 
Probably the satellite will be launched to the position 5 degrees west, where it is urgently needed to replace E5WA, what purpose would it have to launch it at 12.5 degrees west ?!
Thus, it would hit two rabbits at once:
- many transpositions ... very necessary ...
-Application of a perfect coverage area for French and Italian channels ... which would eliminate the possibility of reception, for those watching French and Italian TV channels, FTA.
I think that building these types of satellites (Quantum) will destroy the possibility of being able to watch FTA TV channels from different satellites ... for example, if the Germans will rent such a satellite for their FTA channels ... goodbye TV channels German FTA ... for many ... the coverage area is getting smaller ... and the antennas needed for the reception will have to be larger!
 
I don't think it will be going to 5ºW, unless it coincides with its original mission:
  • Data
  • Mobility
  • Government
Communications on the move: dynamic beam shaping and vessel-tracking capabilities can be optimised for power and throughput as required by maritime, aeronautical and land-based transportation
Data networks: bespoke design of wide-area networks and dynamic traffic shaping, responding to demand where and when needed
Government users: rapid response for public protection and disaster recovery as well as secure control using the latest encryption technology.

There's no indication it will be used for Video or DTH.
 
Probably 12.5W so it covers the maximum extent of the Atlantic for the maritime & aero markets out on the long haul over the pond.

A lot of launches will be delayed. Its impossible to properly socially isolate in somewhere like a rocket control centre.
