EUTELSAT W2
My Location

Hi everyone, im new to this forum and by looking at some other posts this place seems to be very helpful.

I have been trying to find Eutelsat W2 for a couple days now and dont seem to get anywhere.

Equipment: All New apart from motor which I used on my previous dish
80cm Dish
0.3lnd
DisEqC Motor
KAON HD Satellite Reciever

Story so far:
I have managed to find Astra 19.2E and Hotbird 13E but i just can get hold of EutelSat W2 16E. I have tried eveything to my knowledge but I still cant find any signal at all. The signal strength for Astra and Hotbird is quite strong. It used to work fine on my old satellite dish setup same location. As far as I know everything I have setup is perfect including equipment and setup procedure, just can find the right position such as dish elevation and horizontal postion.

The motor Latitude is 51.4
Motor position is 16E

If I have missed on something important or need more information please let me know.

Any advice is appreciated

Thank You

Not all TPs are sufficiently strong in the UK for reliable results with an 80cm Dish.

Try using 10956 H 2821 2/3 (AlsatTV), which is just about the strongest signal.

Did you remember that for a Motorised system, the LNB should be vertical in the holder when the Dish is pointing South? ie Zero Skew.

Most of my relatives use the same dish size and its working fine for them, I dont really know what you mean by the vertical postioning of the lnd.

I will be able to provide upclose pictures if required but not until, friday.

Thanks

Its not just down to dish size but also the quality. Some have difficulty separating the signals from the adjacent sats. Plus 80cm is marginal for 16E, a 90cm is better, preferably a 1m.

Also you want zero skew on the LNB as already said, and try tweaking the position east west to see if you can find it. Try adjusting the LNB distance away from the dish.

AlsatTV can be picked up on a very small dish, I've had it on a Sky minidish a few times.

The LNB should have a graduated scale on it which is juxtaposed with the top of the collar. Just make sure it is rotated by "Zero" with respect to the collar ie the central scale mark abuts the top of the collar.

As for reception, there are loads of Transponders on 16E. For an 80cm Dish where you are, some will be strong, some acceptable and quite a few marginal. There will be some you simply won't get.

You might benefit from finding out exactly what your relatives (In the UK?) actually do get, so that you don't spend time chasing impossible Channels.

I' am looking to find all the DigitAlb channels on the following frequencies.
10975 H/ SR 22500 FEC 4/5
11055 V/ SR 27900 FEC 3/4
11094 V/ SR 27900 FEC 2/3
11449 H/ SR 27500 FEC 7/8

All four a very good quality frequncies.

One Question:
The motor and dish have to inline when motor is positioned at 0 correct.
The all I would have to do is go to 16E and set one of the frequencies above and then move the dish elevation and the lnb is that correct or not.

Thanks for ur advice so far

I think you'll find you'll have trouble getting reliable reception of DigitalB with that Dish. 90cm or bigger would be best.

But as regards setting up, you should not need to adjust the LNB from the Zero Skew position previously mentioned - that is because the locus of the motor is such that Skew adjustment is automatic. That said, a tiny tweak of Skew might just make the difference between success and failure on those TPs.

You will struggle with 11449H 27500 7/8 on your dish because of the high fec (forward error correction) - theres insufficient data correction built into the stream to repair corruption. Your dish is just too small for that one. 11449H seems to be a particularly low power frequency in the UK as well. Things may improve once W2 is retired in a few months time.

Dish quality is vital for W2 as already mentioned. This is something that many overlook. You have mentioned dish size but what dish type and manufacture is it out of interest (unless I missed it above) :D

Satelliteman. I dont mean to hijack the thread but I cant find W2 either on my Penta85. Can you give us an idea of what you can get on yours then it will help Smail and myself. Afterall if you cant get it I doubt he will either!

I have 16 East and 13 East using a 3 degree monobloc in Reading on a Penta 85, I have also installed several on motors in the same area and they all pull in 16 East perfectly.

yes hijacking a thread is not cool :D

In answer to your question and as Rolf said, 16e is no problem on a Penta85cm. All Tp's on W2 booming in here South Midlands and haven't had any problems with the 10 or so Penta's I have already installed on motors. FR Penta 85 is a quality dish.

Thanks Guys Im sure your answer to my question will be a help to Smail.....I promise to start my own thread next time :-DOH!

Hi guys thanks for u advice so far :), I have tried again and againt to fix it but it wont happen, I' am going to take your advice and buy a bigger dish such as a 90cm, I have had a look at some on eBay since I have no time to go down to a shop.

I have found this one in particular which I think is good.

ebay FAVAL High Gain 95cm dish and lnd set

can u give me some help in decidin gwhat i should get which will do a good job for Eutelsat W2 in Kingston upon Thames. I also need a good LND with the new dish, both dish and lnd have to be very high gain, dont mind the price much any recommendations would be appreciated.

I dont like the quality of the dish I currently have with the LND.

Thank you so much everyone

No idea how that dish performs, ebay can be like a lucky dip on equipment like dishes as they are often just re-branded cheap rubbish. It is not simply the size of the dish, but the quality and a low quality 90cm dish may well have just as many problems on 16E as your old dish.

Why not have a look at our supporting advertisers and get yourself a known dish like a Penta 85 or Triax TD88.

I've found that the little Inverto LNb performs well with the Penta 85 as does the Fracarro branded LNB (Low Noise Block converter), other brands which have positive comments are the Smart Titanium, Technomate, and the Sharp, all below £15.

I dont trust eBay much (rolfw) so I am thinking of getting the (Penta 85cm with 0.6dB LNB set). I need to buy it today as soon as a few of you can confirm that it is a goood choice.

I looked at the following supporter website and I think I should get it as I dont want to waste any more time.

Thanks for your time everyone, u have been very helpful sorry that I aint.

I just ordered the Fracarro Penta 85cm Dish and 0.5LNB, I cant wait till I get them hopefully tomorrow, once I do, I will install them and let you know of the outcome.

:) I hope they will work so that my subscribtion to DigitAlb is not being wasted away.

In your location with a FR Penta85 correctly installed, you'll have no problems in W2 reception, enjoy :)
