Has anybody mounted an external DVD writer on the DM800 on USB or eSata? And does the DM800 support playback as well as recording? I have scouted around the threads but found nothing so far.
2.
Do we have any idea whether the DM800 will support external Blu-Ray drives in the future?

This is of interest as I only have 1 HDMI socket on my TV and if the DM800 can have an external Blu-Ray it will be all I need. In the meantime having an external DVD will suffice. Otherwise I will need to replace the TV (it is really an ultra thin monitor).

Hello!
no i dont think that this work
never heard about this!
on dm 800,on dm 8000 ,you have more chance,or on the new realbox avandgarde secound edtion!
both receivers coasts over 1000€

Posted the same question on IHAD and the response was: Plug in a USB DVD rom, put in DVD, go Menu/DVD player and the movie should play. But this does not work for me. I get hte file list with "Show devices" at the top, but no DVD device is listed, not in the file list or in device manager. Can somebody else try this please?

when it works, maybe the modells,of dvd bruner that are supported, are strictly limited, when the driver is missing dreambox dont know the device!

otherquestion, when the dvd bruner, realy burn, the direct hd stream in HD Quality, ask them,on the other board, how good the record realy is,maybe there is a data buffer between, that stores the data to hd first like a image and from that to dvd, when it burned to quickly, what this massive datastorm, would need, then the compatibly,of cheap dvr media,to playback on other deive would be very low!

Turok: Hang fire, they merely said it would PLAY DVDs, not burn them. One step at a time.

okay,i understand now:)

From several other forums:
1.
Blu-Ray playback is not even available on Linux, so it is even further away on DM.
2.
DM800 SHould play DVD, it is a matter of the getting it set up correctly, but I have not managed to get help on that yet and in my case it does not "just work". But maybe my enclosure or DVD drive or both are incompatible.

I will keep diging on this as it will get rid of some cables.

Problem Solved::)

The kernel modules for USB DVD were not enabled. To do this:
Blue panel/settings/kernel modules
They are easily identifiable. Just enable them and your DM800 will play DVDs no problem.

TIP; To find some of the DVD controls (Like skip to next chapter) click the "Help" button.
