As title ...
I need to re-thread the 'F' barrel section of an N to F rf adapter - it's also the same size as the regular F barrel through connector for joining two cables etc. Iv'e had some N to F angle adapters arrive from China but the thread O/D on the F section is nearly .4mm oversize and won't accept our usual F connector.

A little less analogue, and a lot more crap.

Take a picture of the adapter, I might have an older version from the US, or consider making a fly lead with the correct connectors ?

.. Cheers Terry / CH, here's the pic of the adapter from China - the overall barrel dia of the F part is about 0.3 mm or so over size and will not accept the usual F connector. I was hoping to run a correct size die over the original thread to bring it down a tad in size.

Ah, that is a tight spot. I was going to suggest going from N type to sma, then a 90 degree adapter taking it back to f, but you might not have the room to do that.

There are ready made cables with the two ends mentioned but they are more than I think they are worth in your case.

That is a very tight spot, trying to re-thread it may not be feasible, I would order a new one, try this site....https://www.pasternack.com/rf-adapters-category.aspx

I get all my adapter stuff from them.

Thanks both, - since last night's post's iv'e managed to get a used die from the bay for next to nothing so will run that over the first three or four threads to see if it helps. Looked at the pre-made up cables CH but too expensive for my needs. I have ordered a cheap right angle crimp N plug yesterday from RS that's coming today so i will make up a fly-lead with that to try. The ebay store in China has responded quickly to my message that their product is not fit for purpose and they want more info to resolve the problem. Strangely i have straight in-line N to F adapters that are correct in size on the F barrel but these angle ones are defo oversize on the barrel O/D.
Pic shows how the adapter on the little 18GHz H/V/L/R project that i have got up to mechanical test stage at the moment - i'll knock a small vid up showing operation.

Just a thought:
Would a F-quick connector help? They come in different types, and some may fit in your case?

Of course, it isn't screwed on but pushed on, but that isn't the most improtant thing probably.

Had that same thought last night a33 lol, i actually made a homebrew version of one by just cutting four saw cuts into the retaining nut of the F plug but the size difference on the adapter barrel still made it not possible :( . Iv'e tested the losses on the commercialy available Quick Push Fit F plugs and found them to be a bit lossy so don't use them. Iv'e made up a fly-lead this morning with an angled N plug and thats tested out ok but thanks for the thought.

Some questions, whats in the small plastic looking box behind the connection you working on?
Is it needed for the use of this LNB?
If not can you just not remove it and go direct?

This would save on some insertion loss.

It's the motor drive Terry.
Iv'e now made up this short fly lead that connects the Norsat to the 4 way switch on the lnb changer.

Ahh..OK so that bracket that's in the way connects to a motor.....I would have made it longer,(the bracket) so a direct cable would fit.

What you made will do.

.. for anybody that's not sure - the contents of these recent posts here actually relate to a separate ongoing thread dedicated to a motorised 18GHz H/V/L/R polarity unit.
Terry, looking at the above picture at the motor unit and the rear bearing support post, by re-drilling the single M8 fixing hole and the two M5 fixings on the motor bracket 1" further back along the bottom support rail then the 'tuning fork' lnb bracket will just slide backwards, leaving the Norsat lnb in it's fixed position on the bottom support rail. The physical design shape of these Norsat lnb's lend themselves perfectly for experimental homebrew projects, but the bottom line is - - i can't be arsed to do that right now.
** Also - out of interest, what's the level of Ka band activity like in the States Terry for feeds or programming etc.

The only Ka band sats we have active over here in North America with any type of programming belong to Direct TV or Sirius XM, no way to watch or listen to anything on them, and nothing for any type of feeds to speak of.

There are a few with data on them for satellite internet, also a few in the planning stage, and there are a few pointing to South America.
