Afternoon all

Not sure if this is the right place to post this - Admins please move it if it is not.

Well, against all my better judgement regarding security issues, I suppose I will finally have to "join up" - but, before I do, can someone kindly come up with a short list of some fairly specific do's and don'ts on how to set up a basic account and still try to stay reasonably "safe" from "intrusions"?

OTOH, some pointers to good advice elsewhere would be equally welcome.

Thx in advance.

John

Start off by setting all Sharing options to Friends Only.

Google "FBPurity" and install this superb third-party Browser Extension which lets you hide all the carp.

Never allow anything to be set to public, in time try to create groups of like minded people to share specific items/information with.
If you see something on your timeline, that you wish to reply to, first check where you will be posting it, it may well be a national newspaper and if people do not like what you have said you could get bombarded with comments

Also make sure you have some good anti Malware, Spyware and a good anti virus program installed and up to date, some all in one AV programs will not detect the bag bugs before it's too late.

Most of the problem stuff I have seen comes from the cute puppy/kitty video or photo that looks like its from a friend, when it's not, you down load it and your system is sick afterwards.

My advice is to not to down load anything from farce-book.

Running Kasperski Internet Security plus occasional MalwareBytes Free (hope "Mr Puecktin" is not "involved there?) - and I will take on board your point about downloading videos/photos.
