Film GB - Anyone heard of it?

I was asked today on the Astra2D forum if I had heard of Film GB. I had to say I hadn't but had a look on their web site.

According to their press release they're going to be FTA and launching sometime in 2011. There are two other channels as well in the group. They don't specifically mention Freesat, that I could find, but I would imagine that's what they mean.

By Googling one of the MD's (Ursula Adeane) I found more references to FilmGB which mentioned a launch on Sky. No date was given however.

They were supposed to launch earlier this year, but to be honest I rather doubt they will get off the ground.
 
If they do eventually launch it would make more sense financially for them to encrypt and get a few pennies from Sky. I did wonder what their business plan was if they went FTA.

That depends on if Sky want them encrypted of course.

They will never get three channels off the ground in the current economic climate
 
In fact there is more chance of Real Digital becoming a smash hit than Electric Sofa making three channels a success.

That's what we need, another channel showing crap old movies...imo, there are already too many of these. Whenever I get the time and start to go through all the channels of a single satellite, I come across all sorts of channels that the world does not need. I would really like to know who is watchng them, and who finances them???
 
beats me too. I mean, how much "Ocean finance TV" can you watch before you either get slightly nauseous or succumb and sign up (in which case you don't need them to offer you anything else as you have gathered all your loans in one quick monthly repayment)???
Price-drop TV I can understand (rampant consumerism reigns surpreme), and some of the babestation stuff surely has an audience. But here is some truly remarkably unintetersting stuff on the channel lists of some of the sats...

(ouch, I'm getting the habit of getting into grumpy old-man mode these days. But then, haven't done any real projects lately. Perhaps it's time to put a new dish or re-aligning the Channel Master?? :))

it does indeed :D
but I've come to realise that being grumpy old man is not really age dependent - I think I had periods of serious grumpy-old-man-syndrome since I was 20 :)

...at that time friends of mine was of the opinion that grumpiness is directly related (inversely proportional) to the amount of hanging out with and relating to the opposite s_x - could be right, but experience has shown me that it's a fundamental character trait of the human condition, and that in youth it is masked by optimism and hubris. Although I am not quite sure these days...
