I did think about (nearly) all the zombie films but decided that they didn't have the principle of virus contagion (mmm, lovely word) at the front of the plot.
 
I'd recommend 'The Stand' but the version made for tv wasn't good at all. Far better to read the book...which is about a global flu pandemic that wipes out 99.4% of the world population. Nice to read when you're in lockdown...
