Finding closest satellite

Hi all new member here and new to satellites. I have bought a new motorised system and i am about to install it but i have one question . well more later. How do i find the nearest satellite to my position so i can lock onto it as a starting point. my longitude is 54.76 and my latitude is 1.43.

You have latitude and longitude reversed, your longitude is -1.43 or 1.43 West, so as Topper says, your nearest due South satellite is Thor/Intelsat at 1W.
 
My postcode is dh6 1ls so is all correct with long and lat and my nearest sat is thor 1w

Yes it is as per previous posts, use your due south satellite Thor 0.8W often referred to as 1 degree West, this will be the top of your arc
