Oh yes, we know about those fines... My dad got a bad one (although not in that league!!) a few years ago for overtaking a car too fast. He was over the limit for a few seconds just as a police car was approaching in the distance on a very long straight road. He managed to talk himself into keeping his licence though (but only because it was a foreign one and I think the police couldn't be bothered to deal with the paper work).

If they earned that sort of money their hobbies would be more yachts and racehorses rather than bits of tin pointing at the sky :)
Hehe, on the other hand the bits of tin might be vastly bigger if I had the money and land...

I thought this was going to be a thread about Genelec loudspeakers. Disappointed.

And I thought it was going to be about the Flying Finns from rallying's heyday such as Timo Makinen, Hannu Mikkola, Ari Vatanen, etc.

Scandinavia's nature is simply gorgeous, especially further north.

Every finnish driver thinking he´s much better than others. So what can I say:p
Every Finnish man thinks he's a rally driver as soon as a bit of snow lands on the road. ;)

So do the locals here (Haute-Savoie). I generally start to see cars in the fields on their roofs from late November onwards - each summer they forget how to drive in cold conditions.....

I heard somewhere that drivers in Finland are some of the best trained in the world. Not like in Russia, where if you reach a lamp post without crashing into it, you are given a license.

Well I had to do a theory test back in the days when my mates didn't need to in the UK, which annoyed me a bit at the time. We also did motorway training, night driving, overtaking lessons, and the best of all sid pan training in our instructors car and then again later on in our own car if we had one. Plus a refresher course and test 6 months after passing.

A useful test component here would be "driving in a state of inebriety", also "driving as close as possible to the car in front" and "using a pedestrian crossing as a means of grouping pedestrians together for easier targetting".

Aren't those compulsory reading in the 'Code De La Route'?

Going a bit off topic but I 'love' the French deviations when roadworks are ongoing. This usually translates to : "Our workers are in the relais enjoying lunch. Please drive an extra 25km and pass the garage of my cousin where you can top up your tank"
