Fixed dish & multibracket or semi-motorised?

OK. I have given this problem with my knackered dish motor some serious thought and I have decided this may be the better solution for me. If all is well with my Gibby 1m dish, I'll get the dedicated bracket. I can maybe put my old Zone 2 dish on 16E and have three positions on the multibracket say 19.2e, 13e, and a third position to be decided. I would like more, but I only have a 4-way DISEQC switch.

An alternate plan is for a new dish motor and smaller 80cm dish for a few eastern sats. Where I plan to site it would not give too much space for the gibby to turn so I would have to go smaller in dish size - no choice. Even Thor would be out of the question @1w. Your opinions please lads as I value what you have to say.

You know that I have both Tony....

I value the multisat for it's ability to change from one sat to another almost immediately. It's less susceptible to strong wind as the dishes are fixed. It can be a pain to set up unless you go just for a few of the stronger sats. I've got mine where I can work on them off a stepladder, which isn't always possible with a dish on a motor.

As an example of the advantage of the motorised set up, the MBC channels on 7W switched over to a Nilesat with a tighter footprint. I can get them reasonably easily on the bigger dish from 26E. I'd have real problems with trying to fit an LNB between 23.5E and 28E on one of the multisat dishes and would end up with a seperate dish for 26E. There are good and bad points to consider for both types....
 
Well, things have changed since I started this post. Just this afternoon I have worked out exactly where I can put a dish and motor. It won't be as exposed to high winds either which is a massive plus point as the side of the bungalow will act as a wind-break. All I will need to do is buy a new motor and have an elbow joint made. I reckon I will have 42E to 12.5W which is an estimate. I will have to move my Freesat 80cm dish that feeds three other rooms but that is no biggie at all. This was looking at me at all the time and I didn't see the answer. The motor will be about 5 feet above the ground so any technical difficulties can be sorted by me and without a ladder.

It won't be too long before I have everything up and running and I can do all the work myself which will give me a great feeling of satisfaction. It will cost about £10 to have an elbow joint made and then the cost of the motor.

After the heartache of this week, I have seen the light. :) :) :)
 
Just priced up a new motor. £41.95 BIN price on a certain auction website. I have also checked in my shed and I have a longer elbow joint as well so that's a saving. I have a great feeling about what I am going to do. :)
 
That does not matter now, AS. This way I'll get 16e with no hassle. Just have to make sure the gibby will have plenty of clearance when it moves round. I'll do a "dry run" using the old motor in the coming weeks.
 
The worst that can happen is that I have to downsize to an 80cm dish. No worries. :)
But I am confident the Gibby 1m will be OK. As for the dish turning, there should enough clearance as I didn't take into account the space between the motor mounting bracket and the reflector. At least I'll still have a motorised system as I don't think I would have been happy with just 3-4 satellites to choose from. But I may lose a few birds. It's a compromise, but will be worth it in the long term.

A 80cm will work fine with 28, 19, 13 and 9. Dish is focused on 19 if you use a bracket that allows you to place a LNB at its prime focus. 23 will work too but I think its too small for some tps.
 
I'd rather use the Gibby on a motor :)
