Spent about 4 hours out in my shed today, the rain came down, the cold wind blew, but I was happy and warm cos my paraffin heater's flame is blue... :D

As SWMBO had a day's leave left, she tacked it on to this Easter Long Weekend and we went for a lengthy ramble around Rosedale yesterday - the weather was fabulous, with the recent winds down to a gentle breeze, temperature up a fair bit and a beautiful cloudless sky affording fabulous views all around.

Even better (and somewhat surprisingly considering it's School Hols), we passed no other grockles or emmets all day, although there were a handful to be seen on the horizon.

The daffodils are out in glorious bloom, in vast swathes in the villages and on the laneside verges and banks.

Had sticky buns from the Cake Shop in Helmsley and stopped at the eponymous Walled Garden on the way back (We have an Annual Pass) where signs of vigorous Spring growth were well in evidence.

It was a lovely day here, I spent most of the afternoon in the garden with my grandkids, my oldest GD loved been out helping me, GS was running riot and standing in the borders, that's my boy happy days :).

Easter weekend - and its a Friday Saturday Sunday weekend for me as Ive taken a days leave today. And its misty dank & miserable oop here :(
 
It's been raining all morning here, and for most of the week. My garden is under water and all my plans, for the long weekend, are rapidly being washed away, in other words a typical English bank holiday:)
 
Just been down to neighbour's hen house (I'm Farmer Tivu right now) and found three tiny little Easter Chicks have hatched!

No pics, as by the time I'd got home to grab a camera and gone back again, Mummy Hen had finished her feed and is back in the box keeping the little ones warm.

How times change; I remember when we used to have paraffin delivered and the nice man would refill our 5 gallon can for a few bob and it's now sold in throw away plastic bottles and even sold on E__y for.......How Much????

Nah, that was for the Valor heaters, Aladdins used Aladdin Pink paraffin... :D

Too much, but people kept using paraffin in their diesel engines and avoiding fuel tax so gubbernment put a big ol' fuel duty on paraffin so it's about £1.70/l in those plastic bottles, heating oil (which is the C2 paraffin) is still cheap, but, doesn't work so well in a paraffin heater such as my Aladdin 37... :(
 
You can get paraffin (combustible pour poele a petrole) here for €21 a 20 litre bottle. ...about £15 at todays rates...
 
All fuel is cheaper in Europe, so not surprising paraffin is also cheaper... :-doh
 
Are we not in Europe any more?
 
Well, today was bluddy lovely, sunshine, warm temperatures, peaceful (bar the saddos sat indoors watching and cheering at the football!!), spent most of the afternoon outside, enjoying this buildup of warmth... :)

Now if only I had something BBQ, I would have done so... :-rofl2
 
Its been the most glorious afternoon here too - I was digging up at OK's allotment & it was warm enough to take my tshirt off!

Back to work tomorrow (its not a BH up here) so it can rain all day as far as Im concerned :D
