Flat Coax Cable For Windows

Good morning people.

To cut a long story short has anyone had any experiences with a window frame f cable, do they degrade the signal, are they easy to fit etc?

Also can anybody suggest where I can get a balcony railings fitting kit from, or fill me in what seperate parts I would need to accomplish my goal.

I live in South East London.

Basically I live in flats with a communal dish with one feed into the property which by all means is not acceptable. The signal is terrible (I get days when there is no signal whatsoever) and well having Sky HD and one feed is abit pants. I have purchased the self install dish kit as explain in my profile, however I do not want to drill holes in the balcony floor or surrounding walls.

Any help and suggestion would be appreciated

For strong signals, these flat cable sections do seem to work quite well. They have an F socket at each end, so fitting is simple.

No good for marginal signals and I don't know how long they last.

The flat window coaxial cable jumper should be okay with a small cable run but there will be a small amount of signal loss. For Astra2 it shouldn't create a problem.

What size are the balcony railings and are they round or of a square construction?

I did some basic measurements on one a while back, can't remember the figures, but the attenuation was pretty bad, and did depend how much the cable was deformed and squashed. Should be OK for a 10 to 20m run though. Yep, I think a good idea to buy a few spares while you were at it.

Can you post a picture of your railings, I did bolt a mount to some balcony rails a while back, I used 12 inch T&Ks clamped accross the vertical rails, and a short pole.

I should think all the pros and hobbyists here shudder at the thought of a piece of flat co-ax but it does seem to do the job.

Yes it works with the window closed on it, but for how many openings and closings I don't know. I guess that eventually it will fail.

I use two of the flat window F cables for two different dishes and signal loss is minimal even on some of the fringe sats e.g. 4w, 7w, 11w.

Going to look unsightly but... a shelley clamp also known as an 8 nut clamp with a 2 small two inch mast should suit.

Depends on the fixing but I'd say get two to cover yourself.

Thanks I have ordered two of them clamps and one v aka u bolt for the dish. Now what about the pole/mast any recommendations?
