Football for social Club - Help

Hi

Hope someone can help. I am a trustee for a local social club. Sky is crippling us financially and I am looking into alternatives. So far tring seems the answer. Please can anyone else advise what is the best option and anyone who can install it in the Manchester area

tring is perfect for footy - till you get caught:eek:

as far as it looks as the minute you are best, if you have to watch a foreign pack, using a european card such as s k y de or s k y italia.

tring is an albanian package and albania isnt part of the eu.

however, if they want to risk it and it is the cheapest going, thats up to them.

picture quality is shocking though!

Basically the committee needs to ask itself "can we afford to take on Sky's lawyers if we get busted?"

Remembering Sky can afford the best :D

Things are still up in the air atm about the legality of using foreign subscription cards in licensed premises - theres a case going to court in the near future which may or may not clarify things..
 
Tring is an alternative, but as said above and im sure your aware of the risk, Which brings me back to my argument that if a certain provider was not so greedy then Establishments as yours would not have to go down this root, Especially when most members/customers pay subscriptions to the said provider anyway, But who probably like to watch the match down the pub with mates, and up paying twice in retrospect, I dont condone piracy, But do agree with legit cards being used from other providers within realms of this legal argument.

That case has absolutely no bearing on the use of Tring cards - it is about the use of cards sourced from within the EU. Tring is from Albania which is NOT in the EU so Tring cards are "illegal" (certainly for commercial use) and will remain so regardless of the ruling in that case.

Use of a Tring card is the worst possible recommendation for use in a social club.

Note however that all these so called legit cards from sources within the UK are for private subscribers and not for use in commercial premises.

Thats a good point _ Id forgotten Tring was outside the EU.

So can you afford to take on Sky's lawyers? I doubt it :-rofl2
 
The Tring card per se is not illegal. The use of a Tring card may be illegal if the programme/football watched on it originates in the UK and is subject to a UK charge. If the programme/football being watched on even a Tring card does not originate in the UK (edit e.g. Champions League football played outside the UK) then neither the card nor its use is illegal.
 
Sky calcio, SkY De , Im sure all the bars and clubs in these countries dont have special privelages. All in the EU
 
Sky italia with some kind of audio sync would be the best option IMO, the best coverage, but it's expensive and a pain in the arse to get the feeds synced up to start with.

It really depends what kind of risk the club is willing to take. I know of several clubs that actually use cardsharing (I am not condoning this, just mentioning it), then flick through all the providers to find the best feed, and have done so for over a year now.

Have you spoken to Sky about the situation, saying that it is crippling the club financially?

One would hope (maybe in vain) that they would prefer some subs than none at all.

It may well be ludicrous but they know the risks, it is none of my business what they choose to do...

I was merely stating i knew of establishments that took serious risks to show football.
