Fyldeman - if you have 3 minidishes, you really need something with a bit more signal collection capabilities to make the most of the weaker birds. An 80cm dish will pay dividends if you have somewhere to put it. You can even put 3 lnbs on it for 13 / 19 / 28E!

I agree. This is early days for me though. Don't forget I also have the original sky dish at 19E which my new (yippee) toy is presently plugged into.

There was a monster 50 inch dish for sale on ebay yesterday - unsold at end of auction at £20, but it was down South. I don't know enough yet to decide on my next step - motorised / fixed etc.

Right now I need to play with my new toy.

By the way I went on your excellent website again today. But in the "Your Webmaster " section someone has posted a picture of Desperate Dan!!! (just kidding)...

Good plan - get used to the receiver with known strong signals, then you can go hunting the weaker stuff with more confidence. You should get 120 or channels fta on 19E no problem... Theres some good stuff on there - I like "Joy of Painting" around midnight on Bayern Alpha (when im still awake). "Space Night" on BA is also good, esp the Sunday editions. which is currently "Earthviews VI".

For an idea of whats showing on the German channels have a look at www.tvtv.de which is easy enough to understand even if you read almost no German.

Echostar00's and symbol rates of 30000+

Spotted this on the Echostar Yahoo group, and thought it was worth copying here:

"Spoke with Eurosat today and they have confirmed that Echostar have no plans to modify the 7000 model to accept SR's greater than 30000"

So a 3000 is not the receiver to own if you want to watch the Albanian channels on W2 at 16E which has symbol rate of 32000!

Yes I think thats the spec of the one Ive seen advertised. Certainly 3.02, and a sub anyway.

I have been trying to establish if the Dragon CAM would work with my Echostar AD3000IP (asked that question on the forum to no avail - so far) and would be very interested in your experience and views about this.

Also need a programmer, any ideas ?

I have had the receiver for about four years with some memory problems as described by others, but it is still a very good piece of equipment.

Thank you,

Ian.

The cam itself works fine in my Echostar. I havent got it working decrypting anything properly yet as I need a new programmer. (I had one on order, but the company rang me up and told me it was out of stock!) However the adult card it came with works fine, so I know the cams working.

Ive heard (and seen ) some Echostars work with the newer type of multi cams, but only for a short time.

The 3000 series has an issue with Magic Cams, and Matrix versions (both types) requiring resetting between channels with different encryption changes. There is also a problem with the Reality CAM and the receiver unable to fix on the CI menu settings.

I do not know is this extends to the Dragon CAM though

My Dragon works fine in my AD3000IP except for a few channels on 13E (on Rupert's channels ) where there is some pixellation. Some have said another CAM in the top slot with the Dragon in the bottom slot can sometimes help.
I used to have an MR which worked well in this receiver.

h**p://www.echostar-int.com has all the current software on it. OTA updates are available from Hotbird 13E in Europe.

Does anyone have any theories why these great receivers doesnt have shed loads of unofficial software available? There must be hundreds of thousands of them just in Europe, I would have thought they were any obvious target for patching. Ive only ever seen details of one patch - for TPS. Details posted when I find it!

Found it:

Just modify the details of one of the sats you will never use - something hovering over Asia out past 70E will do nicely.

Software updates normally fix minor bugs. For exaple, a couple of years ago TPS changed their encryption, and everytime to 3000 hit a TPS channel, it crashed with a succession of loud scary clicks.

The new s/w also invariably has a new transponder and channel list on it as well.

WARNING. If you need to do a factory reset after a s/w download you will lose all your stored channels, and will need to set the receiver up from scratch again! Do it BEFORE you get the channels set up how you like them!.

I remember you saying Steep learning curve!
you were not kidding were you ?
I am still having fun adding a sat, I have deleted pas3r-6 at 43 w and wish
to add hellas sat 2 at 39 e.
here are my readings :

1 satellite= hellas 2
1 longtitude= 030.0*E
3 tp/ signal quality 0.9=0
4 lnb polarization=vertical
5 symbol rate=0
6 fec= auto

7 - 10 are grey and i can't acess them

I can alter 4 from vertical to horisontal and through its range yet all say
invalid transponder frequency or symbol rate and the blue button doesent seem to resond.
What am I doing wrong ? please help ! thanx D

I'll have a look when I get home, but from memory, you drop down onto 3 - tp and put a new frequency in. Click the ok button, and set up the polarisation and the fec you want and click ok. The blue button isnt active until you are back on the frequency. If you have it set up correctly on a satellite, the strength bar will shoot up, then blue button to scan the freq. I would suggest you try it on a known good sat first, park the dish on say 19E then on your new bird set up 10832 H 22000 5/6 This should scan the Bibel TV / Cz24 tp on Astra 2C. If that works, move the dish to 39E for Hellassat and scan 12524 V 27500 3/4 which is a strong tp.

And yes, it is a steep learning curve, but stick with it as the 3000 is lovely to drive once you got your head round its awkward bits. Id have another one tomorrow even though the design is a few years old now.

Mine seems to handle like a drunken camel at the mo hehe.

I seem to of blindey got a little further, I have replace a sat at 40* with hellas sat and changed in program satellites :

1 sat= 039.0*E hellas 2

2 lnb type =type1 (ive not changed)

3 vid freq/pol (analog) =12524.00/H which i got from http://www.kingofsat.net/en/freqs.php?pos=39.0E

4 skew = not set which is grey so i cant change

5 position = E 0551 W

6 realign dish= -331 which i changed for a better signal its now 83 to 87 % signal level but no quality bar is this cos its in anolgue ?

7 & 8 are grey so i cant alter, thanx for your patience. :)

this sat has animal planet in ir2 so i thought it would be a popular one is it ??

The LNB type is set in Menu 6 4 - and you set up any disecq switching for any multiple lnb's here too. make sure the type is set to universal (9750 / 10600).

Skew is for mechanical polorotator lnb's (specialist kit so dont worry about it.)

Positioning and relaign is for tweaking the position of motorised dishes.

Just a single quality bar on analogue signals - 2 for digital.

Set individual transponders up using menu 6 6 1

Irdeto 2 isnt hacked so anyone wanting it pays for it :)
