Foreign language channels on Astra

Old style sky box - Not digital. (Sorry don't have more info, joining to ask on my grandparents behalf)

Firstly let me apologise if the answer to these is quite obvious to most of you, I am guessing that it may be but I'd rather be sure than end up with unhappy grandparents on the phone!

My grandparents use an old style sky box (pre digital days) to receive specifically the German language channels from the Astra satellites.

Given the impending analogue cut off I (they) have two questions:
1. Will the cut off effect the reception of the channels at all, with their current equipment?
2. Is there any easy way to go between freeview (which they will be having installed) and their old sky box, ideally without constantly having to unplug wires?

Thanks a lot
:)

1) All the old analogue channels will disappear on April 30th

2) The old box will be going in the local tip at the beginning of May, so another solution (a digital one) will be required.

The replacement of the analogue receiver for an inexpensive digital model (and possibly the LNB) will give them many German channels, but no Eurosport in English, just the German version. This will not affect what you do regarding UK terrestrial digital channels.

Not sure why you would need to unplug wires. The aerial cable would go into the back of the tv to watch freeview on and a new digital satellite box will plug into the scart or hdmi socket ( depending on tv and box type). Then just switch input from tv menu to watch the sat box.

That's assuming they have a modern digital TV. Otherwise they'll need a Freeview box plugged in to another scart socket or the new satellite box looped through the Freeview box.

But whatever the setup, it's unlikely they'd need to unplug anything once set up properly.
