Ive had an email from Alex Lane, editor of Wotsat telling me of some forthcoming changes to the magazine.

In a nutshell, we’re reorganising to focus more on technology and enthusiasts, and less on British TV. We’re also going to be doing 13 issues a year, which is something Future has decided for all magazines. It means one issue will come out roughly every 28 days.....

...a column called Feedhunter, where we ask a different enthusiast each issue to write a page about the interesting things they’ve seen, favourite channels, and so on, with a few pictures....

Theres also planned a "Star Systems" feature where enthusiasts systems are looked at with the pros and cons of the system, the development of the system etc is featured

Sadly the excellent (:-rofl2) 4 times a year Retro Sat column is to be dropped :( although with any luck the contributor will still be around occasionally ;)

(BTW Alex has ok'd me to release this info!)

I think it could work well - and anything which raises the profile of the European reception side of the hobby can only be a good thing.

Changes are scheduled to start with the Dec 2008 issue.

Sounds like an interesting shift of direction. :) Not a feed enthusiast myself, but I know there are many who are and I'm sure there will be some interesting installations to be reviewed. :)

Im not sure the Feedhunter feature will be just for feeds - I suspect it will evolve into a "some of your favourite channels" sort of item from the initial description.

:-rofl2 Its not quite Steptoes satellite system although there are 4 secondhand dishes blocking up holes in the hedge, some spare but useful fenceposts tucked safely behind the compost bin, and assorted useful poles hidden in odd corners. :D

Cant throw anything away - it might come in useful!

Although I have to admit about 75% of my sat kit is second hand. :D

Roys feed section is still going strong sid. It runs to two pages every issue and covers all sorts of weird and wonderful stuff. As I said in a previous post I think it was just worded badly and it will be an "interesting channels I have found" type of feature.

The details I have are still sketchy - Alex the ed is busy putting the November edition together at the moment, although I do know there will be more info released in the November issue. If I hear any more details and am oked to post them I'll tag them onto this thread

Roger Bunney's the feed supremo at Wotsat. In fact he goes back a long way, before satellite stuff - he has contributed DX-TV articles and later satellite feedhunting in the Television Magazine since the 60's (before the magazine folded).

His 20-year old TV-DXers Handbook still sits on my shelf - interesting stuff on UHF tuner design, propagation, aerial construction and early satellite receiving experiments.

Having had a motorised satellite system for about 15 years, i used to buy WotSat every month, over that time i have seen readers write in and ask for certain subjects to be included and the reply was always the same there is no room in the magazine.

Well there would be plenty of room if they got rid of the sky listings and stop turning it into a TV guide because that is where you will find it on the shelves of the high street mag shop.

If they turned it into a true satellite magazine i for one would take out a subscription.

whatsattelite used to be a good read, now it's just a tv guide;

When did wotsat start?
What was before it? I also remember Satellite Times in the 90s???

Wotsat was first published in 1986 - as a supplement to 'What Video'.

The first one I remember buying was a 1993 edition, with a test of a Swedish Microwave dish - I bought the dish and it's still up and running in fine fettle :)
