Hi all, im new to this "Hobby" and am interested in getting a motoriesed HD setup, i have questions abouts all the different component but ill save them for their appropriate threads, anyway im in manchester england.

There are not particular sats i want to be able to receive at the moment (not really looked through what is available) i want a setup that can receive most things so then i wont have to change things later (i hope it can work like that) any way as for the dish im wondering if a Fracarro 1m(PT100AC) would be better than a Fracarro Penta85, there is not alot in price difference so basically would i be better getting the 1m so i dont have to upgrade later on or are they about equal (i do like the look of the penta85 :D)

I have looked through most of the thread and have used the search but there is nothing for the PT100AC.

Many Thanks, and sorry for the long post!

Yes, the Gibertini 100cm certainly performs.
Take a look at the Fracarro PT100AV and compare it with the Gibertini 100.

Hi, Thanks for recommendations.

so i guess from the replys it would be better for me to get a 1m over the penta85?

they have the gibertini 1m on ebay for £70 so ill get one of them. Thanks again for your help

I dont know if this is the right place to ask but...

here is the list of stuff iv picked so far, would you say this would cover most things i will need
(excluding cable/mounts/TV/ETC.... obvious stuff)

azbox elite or premium
dark motor or moteck 2100A
icecryt 0.1db lnb
diablo cam & cas+

Like iv said there is no particalur sat im after i want to be able to receive most things so would
you advise the diablo cam or is something else out now that is better

I'm sure someone will correct me if i'm wrong, but I think that these days a Diablo cam etc. would really be a waste of money. The Diablo wifi cam can do CCcam which would be useful for you, and the azbox. It depends what you are looking to receive I suppose.

thanks to all for the help so far, as u mentioned CCcam i looked into as being a noobie i had no idea, i dont like the idea of sharing ne thing over my "tracable" net connection. from what iv read there are alot of channels going over to non-compromised encryption ie nagra3 and cardshare not really working iv u dont share or have a card, im just wondering is it really worth getting into this game or will there encryption breakthroughs in the future?

thanks again for all the help + a great forum

All 1 metre dishes (Gibertini, Facarro, etc) are bigger than 1 metre when measured from top to bottom. The Penta 85 may also be bigger than 1 metre when measured horizontally (can someone confirm/refute this?). This means planning permission is required for these dishes, so look out for any "helpful" neighbours.

Now that is interesting ................ Would it, I wonder, be a good idea for me to replace my Orbital 80cm wall-mounted Motorised with one of these and to sell on my ground mounted Motorised TD110.

I could do with rationalising a bit.

Does the "85" refer to minimum dimension, given the shape of the Penta?

Yes, the Fracarro Penta would definitely out perform an Orbital 80cm. Upgrade and you'll have a nice bird bath for the garden :D

No, it is the size of the equivalent circular aperture.

Penta 85 = 77.5 cm * 77.5 cm = 6006 cm2; minus rounded corners (4 * 9 cm * 9cm = 332 cm2) = 5674 cm2.

Area of circular aperture as presented by conventional 85cm offset or prime focus dish = 42.5 cm * 42.5 cm * 3.1416 = 5674 cm2.

The triax TD 110 has a dish face of 105 cm * 100 cm so the circular aperture is 1 metre. The area of a 1 metre circular aperture = 50 cm * 50 cm * 3.1416 = 7854 cm2. That's 38.5% more dish face than the Penta 85, which equates to a 1.4 db increase in on-axis signal and a 1.4 db decrease in off-axis noise (I think).

Yes - since Posting the light had dawned (with the help of good old Google etc.), but not to that level of detail :)

I shall cogitate. I've considered the performance gains reported by others as compared with eg TD88 and need also to factor in things like cost (One is penniless ..................:-downt) and the restrictions of my site (I Posted a load of very scenic, but not conducive to a full arc, pics in the Members Setups Thread a few weeks back).

The Gibertini 1m is £85 and the Penta85 is £70, would the improvement in the 1m over the 85 be needed in north east england or would it be negligeable?

It all depends what you want to receive. I've got a 90 cm dish and that receives 90% of everything I want to watch. For the rest I use my big dish.
