I got the Aluminium one !

How many of you have this dish and what are your thoughts?

I've fitted several, excellent dish, very good performance.

They had Grey Steel ones and White Aluminium ones

I went for the Aluminium. I wanted Grey but white will do.

I understand they are quite rare now so I was suprised to find stock and did not hang about !

I was going to use this for 28.2. A bit OTT for that I know

I'm thinking how good would it be in a motorised set up?

I've got a Technisat Satman 850 85cm and a Penta 85cm. Not sure which to use on the motorised !

I'd use the Penta.

Found this YT. Can't understand a word but the visuals are easy to follow

Like the way he compared the dishes and signals on Sirius 4.8E

Looks like the Penta 85cm is as good as a Gibby 85cm. Impressive !

Now, if your dealer can deliver a 1m Fracarro to you.....

Looking at the spec I think there is not much in it gain wise. The Penta85 will be lighter as well.

PT100C 1m vs Penta85

Gain @ 10 GHz is 39.7 vs 39

Not that one, the original diamond one.

Ok no chance of finding that one in stock.

Must be aluminium as I want to go as light as possible on the weight and give the motor an easy life.

I can get the 1m PT100C though if that's a good one? It must be good though or slightly ahead of the Penta 1m as it's a standard bowl shape surely?

Your supplier knows little about Fracarro.

Buy what your wallet can feed them.

They discontinued the largest Penta around 18 years ago due to low take up, but the odd one is still around.

It would have to be a large order to ramp up production for you.

Ok that makes sense.

I think the 85cm is fine enough. The gain figures look impressive.

I am tempted by the 1m PT100C though....:D

I have a Penta 85 (Steel) on a Technomate TM-2300 M3. If you're worried about the weight, the steel version is still way under half the max rated load for that particular motor. It's something like 9kg vs 6kg, and you don't get a horrible cheap aluminium resonance when it's tracking between satellites. DTH satellites will be dead and gone by the time it wears out :D

I can say the performance, for me anyway in the North West (Rossendale area) is exemplary. From 45E to 30W and all of the even unreasonable asks in-between absolutely boom in. I've paired mine with the Ultra Black.

Whilst it's a dickhead thing to admit, I bought it for a few reasons - great gain for the size (I had to think wife approval factor), decent price (£120) and the resemblance to the Squarial... but overall the aesthetics of the Penta 85 on a motorised setup are dreadful. It looks great straight on (either at 0d on a motor or on a specific bird with LNB skew), but any angle off straight looks weird and at the extremes look little more than awful. I dunno, like a typical Paul Scholes attempts a volley on goal from the other half or something.

Prime focus dishes definitely pull ahead when tracking the sky, but beauty is in the eye of the beholder I guess. Some will look at the pics below and think it's amazing.
