I am thinking of getting a Penta 85 and see that they are available in steel or aluminium. Steel is slightly cheaper but will presumably rust whereas the aluminium is probably lighter and won't rust. Thinking about it I don't understand why they make dishes in steel in the first place. Have I missed something?

Thanks

Welcome to the Forum :)

I think you've probably answered your own question. Cost (Certainly for Dishes at the smaller end of the market): I wonder, for example, exactly how much it costs to press a Sky Toydish - peanuts, I imagine!

It's only when weight becomes a factor (over 80 cm or so) that using a more expensive raw material becomes potentially worthwhile, in giving the benefit of lightness.

Both dishes will perform well. The steel version doesn't flex as much in windy conditions.
