Anybody know if Fransat cards need activating with a French bank account or do they just activate whn they are switched on.

My experience is that they just work automatically,and update too. There is no payment or question about where one lives. For France3 you can choose which regional variation to make "home". You can buy Fransat receivers either SD or HD in specialist outlets, but also hypermarkets etc in France, no questions asked. The receivers come with a viaccess card for "La TNT gratuite par satellite"

I bought one in Carrefour this summer, went home to DK and plugged it in, it worked straight away, and has ever since. One software update, and still working.
