I went into my dealer yesterday about buying a new tv. he recommended a 1080 P tv because they have HD output. the problem is that many tvs have HD ready but only on the input not whats actually on the screen.. I need a lot of inputs for my equipment. so finding one was a little more difficult. i needed 2/3 scarts 2or 1 HDMI 1 pc and a game connection in the end have decided on a Hitachi 37/42 or a Sharp model as they gave me everything i wanted.. audio connections are not important................................ Since then have seen the new advert for the free sat service (i assume there is HD channels on this free service?) my question is what satellite will this will be useing and would the old sky digital dish have to be moved to recieve the signals.. I assume that next year the tv manufacturers will have a built in free sat box liie the freeview inside the tv.. I suppose the big question is this the best time to buy a tv???? In my old house i had a 80 annolgue dish fitted with twin LNBs the reciever was a echostar 500 ? Unfortunately my ex has it and does not want to give it back.. those were the days.. BBC and ITV had been for years been very worried about ther viewing figures, this is there way of getting back the viewers. I have always been a supporter of that BBC should have adverts on TV because they should be self supporting (ie the licence fee is a joke when yu have to pay for the service as well SKY ). For many years they have had programs that have been supported by commercial companies. The introduction of the free service will i have get rid of the chains that hold the BBC.

what does the forum think ??

I have to honest, apart from being tight, I currently see no point in upgrading for the sake of, it is almost akin to all the stuff with speaker systems Dolby this, surround sound that and wow man can you tell the difference? ermm no mr average Joe cannot sorry as most people over the age of 45 have lost 30% of their audible hearing range anyhow. So when my Fergie chassis crt packs up then and only then will I look at all this. Anyhow I would have to re-model the whole room to take one of todays monsters. Let them all iron out the problems/ incompatibilities with freeview etc then I may dip my big toe. I know there are many on the forum who enjoy all the latest technology to watch their favourite adverts but well is it really worth all the expense... and paint is not cheap either:-gnome:-tree:-sball

It will be using Astra2D at 28.2E with the EPG on 28.5E as far as I know.
whichever it is, it will be from the 28E orbital location, the same as sky digital.

So your sky dish will be fine and won't need to be moved.
