Free view on Sky +

hello guys i have a thompson sky + box and im having bother in trying to get freeview or freesat on it
when i connect the two cables into the box i have signal in number one but not in number two

so then i tried the one with signal in no two and really every port etc

so really i just want free view on the box how do i get it

You cant get Freeview on a satellite receiver.

Presumably you want the Free to Air channels - a slight but important difference.

Your big problem is this word thompson. If the box isnt behaving as expected then the power supply capacitors are probably damaged - a common problem with Thommos. Pop the top off the box and see if any of the silver cans in the power supply area are bulging. If they are then the box needs a refurbished psu in it, the caps replacing, or it slinging in a skip.

Keep your fingers well clear of the electronics if you have a look - there can be dangerous voltages in them long after the box has been unplugged.

sorry didnt know which sat i wasnt to sure. but anyhow i know all i want really was the free channels on the box
i got the box and the psu wasnt working so i bought one off ebay with long life caps so now its my aim to get her going if thats possible
so is there a trick to get it started at all

Who has aligned the dish for you and what channels are you receiving on the one port that is working?

i did it i have installed the dish. i have done these before just to astra nothing else its on a 40cm dish and i thought when i got signal i would have got astra you know and looking about the area my dish is much the same as the others, i know that sounds bad but when searching around for other sats thats is the strongest and to the right and a bit up im sure thats hotbird you know
its sounds bad but is there a way to test that im on astra
the sky box shows the correct time and date if thats anything to go by.

Are you getting any channels at all populating onto the box?

If not its quite possible you are aligned onto one of the other strong satellites. - 19E or 13E are the common ones to incorrectly align onto. A minor fault that can be rectified very quickly..

can the sky box tell me which one im on astra hotbird etc

Not easily. You could try Add Channels / Other Channels

If

11836H 27500 3/4 gives you some German channels its 19E

12015H 27500 3/4 gives you Arabic channels then you are on 13E
