I signed up to freecycle a while ago as I had stuff to give away, i.e. a single bed and ebay was not the place for it. I was amazed at the stuff that people put on there, Xboxes and BTvision boxes some of the stuff is rubbish but some people can make things out of rubbish but I used a bit of lateral thinking the other day when I knew I needed a replacement hard drive and being unemployed I could not afford. I spotted a BTvision box which you cannot give away on ebay ATM and thought yes, get in there.....and sure enough I got a reply come and collect. Not only did it have a nice 160GB hard drive in it, the box came with two Comtrend Powerline adaptors. So I am posting this using my newly acquired drive after a quick install of XP Pro and I could actually flog these adaptors for about £30.00 to £40.00 on ebay if I find I have no use for them.I have tested them and they work ok too.

I have used freecycle 4 times now both offering and wanting and it is a very good idea to reduce the amount theat goes into landfill sites.

So received a Btvision box + powerline adaptors

offered a single bed Taken for 5 year old boy
offered Hamster cage + plastic tunnels Taken for family with 3 Gerbils
Offered two man tent Taken by a girl guide leader
 
My sister uses it quite a bit, but I don't like the email format of it and have a real dislike for Yahoo groups.:)
 
I've used to give a few things away and will do again soon to get rid of a load of sharp sand (hopefully).

Yes I agree Rolf, the software format is quite infuriating, however I am not on there everyday so can put up with it, I already made myself a bit unpopular with my local moderator by daring to suggest a re-vamp. I do not like the ambiguity of replies and then when you do decide to offer the item to one of the replies you never hear from them again.

I was thinking more 'ferrite polariser' currency as I have loads.

No it is not swap shop either, one freely gives the item to whomever comes to collect it.
 
I've been on Freecycle for a year or two now.

I pretty quickly learned to change the email notification from single emails to a digest. This cuts down the number enormously.

To start off with I would get a digest every day or two, now there are sometimes three or four a day! I find that it's only worth reading the most recent as everything decent will be well gone on the others. It's even marginal on the newest, I strongly suspect that some people just sit at their computers all day on the Freecycle group page waiting for new postings!

I've got rid of a few things and been lucky on a few more. My best gain was a cross-trainer which I brought out to France. Unfortunately it's so stinking hot that even looking at it brings me out in a sweat!

if i want to give something away i just put it outside on the pavement, usually its gone within ten minutes.
 
Getting rid of the old toilet on freecycle, got someone asking for it already!! :D

B oogger, I was in Taunton today. Care to keep it until I return ?
 
We have a very popular website called yad2 (meaning 2nd hand) where you can advertise the stuff that you want to sell and people would come and buy it from you.
I sold three empty libraries after I got rid of their load of old catalogs and paper that I no longer need. Sold them at half price.
Also advertised to teach how to speak better English (my stomach turns every time one of our politicians opens his mouth in English).
Got a call from an adult who wanted to learn English from scratch.
So I told him it would be cheaper to enroll for courses with the British Council.
