FreeNAS Upgrade......

Been having a nightmare with the ssd, I can install FreeNAS os on it via the usb install method and then it fails to boot.

I have tried installing FreeNAS to boot via uefi bios and also under the legacy options, and it still fails to boot.

If I use my usb hdd dock I can install the os and it will boot from that hdd as long as it remains in the dock.

As soon as I plug it in on the sata 1 cable, it fails to boot.

I have also installed Linux mint on the hdd just to test it out.

Any ideas please?

Opened the side today and got a nasty surprise!

I have already phoned amazon and given them a few choice words! They are refunding the purchase price.

What puzzles me is it’s only 12 volt yet it’s melted.

In almost 20 years of tinkering with the works computers Ive never seen any melted cables inside any of them - and being a school they do get a bit abused. I decommisioned one in 2006 that had a woodscrew jammed in the rear psu fan - the area on the back of the psu on the back panel was hot enough to take the skin off my fingers!

The only interior damage Ive ever seen was when a transistor blew up and blasted a hole straight through a mobo.

Finally had the nas running for 3 days without a hitch, and moved my data back.

To do this I had to use the case that my msi Pc was built in. It’s exactly the same case except it’s red, this case has been well and truly soak tested.

This left me with out a case for my msi machine so I ordered a Fractal Design core 2300 and rebuilt the Pc.

The idea of FreeNAS on a ssd has been dashed, so I plan to use it in another Pc.
